Listen up grunts! I know the US troops started out with the M-14 as a standard, with out a flack jacket, at what time in the war did flack jacket become standard issue? Was that before or after the M-16 was introduced? Like to get my troops correct. |

Yes, that old version of the "Flak Vest" had be around for sometime. In the 101 in the early '80s, we were still issued them, IIRC … |

We had the old flak vests until 1987 in the 1st ID at Ft. Riley. |

I wore a flak vest in 1968 in Vietnam. At that time my M16 was an old one with the three prong flash suppressor. |

We didn't get the Kevlar helm until about '84. Still worn the old "steel pot". Like many here … |
