Can you folks recommend any tutorials for terrain tiles using blue foam. I want to build 2x2 terrain tiles that can be used for either 28mm or 6mm. I will need some to be smooth so I can put my 4Ground buildings for my city fights. Others can be textured. I'm ideally looking for tutorials that show painting and give good descriptions of techniques. I have no skills in this area so I need all the help I can get. |

I have and am not finding anything that fits the bill of what I'm looking for. I'm hoping that the combined experience of the TMP membership may be able to point me in the direction of something really good. |

Google these keywords -- that brought up some links for me: terrain boards for wargaming tutorial I checked the link for the 1000 Foot General website and he has additional links from his own research. |

For a city board, one easier option for one is to get some plywood or other heavier board cut to the shape for your tiles and then look at the textured wallpaper for one that fits what you want. Apply it to the board and paint it up. Brick streets are interesting for detail and can work for just about any period since there are a lot of places that still put them in… |

Private Matter: are you going to build "green"/temperate terrain boards… or arid/desert boards? If the latter I will post links to a bunch of posts about building my own Afghan boards, and as JSears said above, good luck!

I found this guy about 10 years ago and used his technique to create all of the terrain boards I now own. This is based on making 2 x 4 modular sections utilizing pink or blue insulation foam that is glued to a baseboard of MDF. Each 2 x 4 section is also framed with wooden batten. Any sections you make that have rivers entering or exiting the board are areas where the wooden batten would be cut away as you'll see in his photos. These boards end up being very heavy, but they are also VERY STURDY and damage proof for movement and storage between games. link Here's some photos of the ones I made: link link link link link link link |
