Jägare would probably be best translated as "rangers". Several different ranger units available, airborne, coastal, arctic and finally just "jägare". Very light infantry, mostly for recon and behind enemy lines action. |

Well Hunters is named jägare in Swedish, During the 80s there where quit many Swedish jägare-units Kustjägarna- Costal rangers there where 8 coy during the 80s The preserved them self as the hardest unit in the Swedsih military. link Fallskärmsjägarna- Parachute Rangers probably the best trained Swedish unit. It say is operated two batalions during the 80s, but the unit operated in sqauds. link Here is a film from the 1981 incident of U137 where both units are present Red baret Para ranger, Gren Costal Rangers. YouTube link Lapplandsjägare- Lappland ranger- 8 coy of border rangers far north. link Norrlands jägare, Norrlands rangers, 8 batalions of Rangers for far north. link Fältjägarna- Field rangers, 6 batalions of rangers for south Sweden. All this units where specilized in operating in small units behind the enemy line in order to gather intelligence and distrupt lines of comunication. |
