Finished up my Nemesis from Silent Death:

What do you folks think?

Nice work! Personally, I would like to see it un-Photoshopped though; the pic leaves it looking a bit too dark to really appreciate the painting.

I think it looks brilliant.

I did something similar for one of my low tech space fleets when we were running FT Star Trek campaigns in the 1990s. It's a lovely scale-agnostic model that has many uaes

Thanks guys!

@BlackWidowPilot… what other Silent Death minis do you think would work well for multiple scales?

CorpCommander17 Apr 2017 1:17 p.m. PST

Isn't that a Beta Fortress?

Mr. Harold,

Hmmm… I've seen a good many of our minis including those with otherwise obvious bubble canopies repurposed as larger ships in a smaller scale by the simple expedient of painting the bubble canopy as a round hull section housing a bridge with tiny pinprick bridge windows painted on the perimeter.

Personally, the ones that strike me as most scale neutral in the woodpile are the Nemesis, the Agni (0690), the Betafortress (0624), the Conestoga (0630), the Dain (0683), the Dumbo (0724), the Equalizer (0652), the Fertilizer (0727), the Firebat (0654), the Flywheel (0716), the Hornet (0649), the Iceberg (0673), the Javelin (0650), the Kakshmi (0678), the Nova (0695), the Orca (0747), the Predator (0733), the Prowler (0693), the Quark (0697), the Sapper (0739), the Sentry (0622), the Punisher (0738), the Shryak Shuttle (0612), the Spider (0642), the Star Raven (0623), the Surya (0691) will work as an atmosphere capable small escort, the Toryu (0723), and the Vishnu/Yama (0672).

Now, of course our escort class ships aka Warhounds will work as larger class vessels in smaller scale games. The Fletcher, Constellation, Falcon, and Kali in particular will work as heavy cruisers or even battle cruisers in Full Thrust. The Aosho as a carrier for obvious reasons, and then there's the Night Brood ships which will work as biotech alien ships.

The Pteranodon and Nebula II will work as alien ships quite readily, with the former as a capital class warship thanks to the hefty size of the model.

Another trick in adapting our minis to serve as larger ships in a smaller scale is to do simple mods like clipping off the stub wings on the Sapper, or even combining two or three models to make a larger ship such as taking two Javelins and using them as the warp engines/weapon mounts wedded to a Fletcher or similar model.

The plastic Core Ships are a very economical way to take this approach, as they are relatively inexpensive, you get twelve different ships on a sprue, and being hard plastic are relatively easy to clip, saw, and cut to make new and larger craft.

Hope this all helps!

Isn't that a Beta Fortress?

We repurposed the original 1st edition minis quite some time back due to ICE lacking sculpting resources for new models. As events took their course under the old company leadership, Sheldon Greaves and I were given no other choice as we developed new books for SD:TNM. So waste not want not, plus we benefited from a canceled project (The Prometheans) in that we picked up all of the ship minis that were produced by left sitting on the skids when the author failed to deliver on the manuscript.

Currently there are over 100 different ship minis available as it is. We hope to develop matters over the course of the current year to the point that we can start producing some new designs, AND bring back the resin 3 to 1 scale models while we're at it, in their case that would also involve releasing a host of ships that were mastered but never put into production.

So if you haven't mucked through our online store yet, I encourage you to do so! All of the classic 1st edition ship minis are available under their new names, plus there's all the rest of the lot to enjoy.

Cheers!

Leland, quick question – what ships are on the 'plastic ships' sprue? I was hoping that it would list them on the page for that entry but there was nothing there. Is it just three each of the fighters shown (Kosmos, Teal Hawk, Blizzard, Salamander from the pic) or is it twelve different designs? I can't remember what was on it originally it was so long ago I painted mine lol.

Brother Jim25 Apr 2017 8:56 a.m. PST

There's 1 each of 12 different designs. I'm eating lunch right now, I'll let you know what designs after I'm done eating.

EDIT: Blizzard, Dart, Hell Bender, Kosmos, Lance Electra, Night Hawk, Pit Viper, Salamander, Spirit Rider, Talon, Teal Hawk and a Thunderbird.

Bob Runnicles25 Apr 2017 12:14 p.m. PST

Excellent, thanks Brother Jim!
