Please help me figure out this old movie. I came across it one day on tv but don't recall the name. It was made in the 1930's and set in a hotel high in the mountains somewhere in Europe during the interwar period.. I remember there were people from various countries and there was concern over hostilities growing. I don't know if the specific country was mentioned but it may have been in a Austria or Switzerland. The hotel overlooked an airbase and there was a scene of the people watching aircraft come and go. I remember it being a spy or political thriller where everyone suspected everyone else's motives for being there. Sorry I don't have much more to go on. The film was in English and was either a Hollywood or British movie. If this sounds vaguely familiar and you can point me in the correct direction, I would appreciate it. |

Now you've got me bugged,as I'm pretty sure I saw the same film in the past year or so,and can't remember the title either. Was it possibly a series film--Boston Blackie,or something similar? If The Shadow is lurking, perhaps he'll chime in. |

See? It's happening to you, too! Probably not Boston Blackie. I may be misremembering, but wasn't there some incident that prevented guests from leaving,a snowstorm,or rail accident, perhaps? There were several mysterious deaths or dissapearances. Though that doesn't narrow it down much! : ) There was a mother and daughter, IIRC. Also (I 'think'!): Some decided to hike down the mountain. Someone was found dead in a shed. Someone fell (or was pushed) over a cliff. |

Didn't that take place mostly on a train, not in a hotel? |

I think Hafen is describing the movie I saw. I seem to recall a horror star being in it, but I checked both Karloff's and Legosi's filmographies and didn't see it. Maybe Peter Lorre? |

Definitely not The Black Cat. If Peter Lorre was in it,it would probably have to be Secret Agent(1936): link Possible--it's on youtube,so you can check. I'm not sure. I was thinking something a bit later. |

I know the movie. It's on the eve of a hostile army coming over the mountains and everyone needs to get out of the hotel on the mountain before it gets there or they may end up as POWs. Don't remember the name. Very good character interaction. Enjoyable flick. |

Yep,that certainly looks like TG's movie. As for me,I'm either thinking of some other movie, or conflating memories of the two. Thanks,Nick. What does he win,Bill? |
