Am writing a blog to review rules that I play with child, to try and give people an idea of what would be a good 'starter set' to use. Have been giving thought about what rules to use.

He enjoys Lord of the Rings and other fantasy settings so have given some thought of how to start him off in fantasy gaming. Have some thoughts on my blog, but if there is any obvious candidate I have missed would love to hear recommendations.

Cheers

Song of Blades and Heroes. I've run it for kids and the elderly and everyone loves it. Easy enough fo kids but with enough tactics tokeep you engaged.

Also, you'd have to buy it, but you can find the "Magic The Gathering: Arena of the PLaneswalkers" game for $15 USD on Amazon. It's basically Heroscape with an added magic deck component. There are two expansions for the same price.

If you're gamign with kids, you owe it to yourself to check out the rules written by Sean Patten at ironhands.com (formerly necromundicon) He has a bunch of clever and easy rulesets for different genres that he wrote for gaming with his kids. They mostly share teh same dice mechanic so it's easy to try different games. My son (6) and I had alot of fun with Starcrashers.

I invented Knights and Knaves to teach my son DBX at age 8. Hels been playing ever since and taught his friends how to play.

Eventually I made it the basic game version of A Game of Fire and Ice. A great starting point for even the very young and they can use the programmed learning system to expand into the Advanced and Fantasy version.

Rules for Children those are simple:

First they should

Sit down and not move

Second they should

Be quiet while they are sitting down and not moving.
