"Worker digging up an underground section of the Bangalore Metro rail were in for a surprise when they discovered a 12 feet cannon and a cannonball – believed to be from the Tipu Sultan era. The construction site, where the 18th century cannon was unearthed, falls between Tipu's summer palace and the Bangalore fort. Interesting to see from the sale video that Tipu fielded bronze 3pdr light cannon in plain brown wood finish. Useful for anyone wargaming this period. Wonder if they were gallopers for cavalry or "battalion" guns for infantry units. I had thought from Weller that battalion guns were 6 pdrs. |
