100 years ago today 4 Canadian divisions assaulted Vimy Ridge in France defended by 3 German Divisions. The 4 day battle was fought in bad weather, rain and snow with many shell holes filled with water.
The Canadians had 3598 men killed and 7004 wounded.

I just wonder. How come the British troops that attacked Vimy Ridge on that very same NEVER get a mention ?

They do bgb, 13th Brigade 5th Division in support of Canadian Second as a follow on Brigade were instrumental in capturing the German Gun line in Bois de Ville. There were also gunners from Australia and India as well as British and Canadians. But keep it in perspective as well – it is often lauded as Canada's coming of age by many of the politicians at the time – birth of a Nation some would call it. So please allow for a bit of Nationalism from Canadians :) We don't do it often (except for hockey). Also you can read all kinds of books that don't mention Canadians at Normandy or even fighting up the coast to Belgium and Holland. I don't think that is done to slight Canadians, just makes for easier writing I suppose. So yes I the British are mentioned and at our 100th commemorative event in Ottawa all British Empire participants were mentioned as well as homage being paid to the French soldiers who died at Vimy during 1st Artois. So NEVER is a bit too strong ;)
