Is there any reason these couldn't be used for late Italian lombards? Is their gear too late? |

They should be okay for the very end of the Lombard period – after about 1050ish. Before that, round shields seem to be more common in the artwork. Two Dragons have either mail or quilted hauberks. Some of the period artwork shows armour which is more like lamellar. |
