I've recently acquired four boxes of Caesar Hittites (1/72 plastic figures).

Without getting too technical, I'd like to build an 800+ point Field of Glory army to oppose my existing Mycenaean & NKE armies. So what figures can I add as allies & mercenaries to make up the numbers?

AFAIK: everything will need to be Caesar figures?

The Hittite boxes I have will supply a heavy chariot unit, some defensive spearmen, javelin armed skirmishers, a few bowmen & an armoured Royal Guard (heavy infantry spearmen): not enough units.

I have a Mitannian Light chariot unit already painted & some Sea Peoples who can be allies.
The Caesar Bedouin sets are a possibility as mercenaries? I have a few boxes so if so, I can add a camel unit, javelinmen & archers & a medium infantry spear unit.

Comments & suggestions are invited.

Hi ochoin,

Maybe you can add some Hittite chariots, infantry and archers from Newline Designs (metal).

I don't know about FoG requirements, but your Caesar Bedouins should be good mercenaries from the Habiru or whoever you wish be maraunding your desert frontier. I personally avoid camelry for some centuries on.

That's my thoughts. Hope it helps.

Thank you for your comments. I'll certainly look to Newline to plug any gaps but I am trying to make this army, as far as possible, a budget one!

Camels: I've looked into it & *probably* the 1100s are too early but I'm going to lean towards an earlier, if undocumented, introduction. It's one unit only.

Great. I think they are good choices. You can also change some of your Sea Peoples shields by scratch made ones to add variety.

Newlines are cheaper than most, I find. And generally dam' good quality.

No problem at all with Newline. My NKE army (about 1200 points) has quite a few Newline figures & my Mycenaean force (850) is mostly Newline.

As I said though, the Hittites will be "on a budget"…..maybe.

Further question: Hittite Royal Guard.

They don't appear in the FoG army lists but I have a pile of armoured figures that could be labelled as such. The question is Heavy or Medium infantry?
