Gasp!

Winston Smith04 Apr 2017 7:00 a.m. PST

But the movie seems to have a Fokker Eindecker, so that makes up for it.

It also seems to have your standard superhero trying to fit into an unfamiliar world, and Gal Gadot is gorgeous.
I might even skip a car payment and go see it in the movies.

Wackmole904 Apr 2017 7:12 a.m. PST

right that looks like someone playing battlefield 1 with a super-hero.

Martian Root Canal04 Apr 2017 7:15 a.m. PST

The Fokkers don't seem to have any armpit hair, either.

Not going to touch this topic ! huh?

Gal Godot has more screen presence than the rest of the Batman v Superman cast combined did.

War Panda04 Apr 2017 8:04 a.m. PST

In the context of the thread I thought I was reading: "Gal Godot has more armpit hair than the rest of the Batman v Superman cast combined"

Sysiphus04 Apr 2017 8:15 a.m. PST

Does Wonder Woman display "under-arm hair" in the comic books?
She seems to have the more important "mammalian traits" displayed; I don't see a problem.

Andrew Walters04 Apr 2017 8:27 a.m. PST

With things being what they are, was there any chance whatsoever that the Wonder Woman movie was not going to raise a controversy like this?

If you think the ideal of feminine beauty is unattainable, take a look at some of the other ideals floating around today.

and no one has commented on the fake "African" accents??

15mm and 28mm Fanatik04 Apr 2017 8:55 a.m. PST

Here's the offensive pic. Had it been less obvious it would have been ignored. Because as we all know Wonder Woman is an Amazon goddess who never needs to trim excess body hair anywhere on her perfect body.

If people want to get up in arms (he he) about Wonder Woman and feminism, there are more interesting lines of discussion on the topic. (For those who didn't already know this.)

Not that comics have any sense of continuity or internal consistency, but a divinely imbued vessel for justice would mop the floor with some over-revved alien any day of the week.

Also, DOM liked Wonder Woman (and Barbie, for that matter) as a kid. <BRAG>Last year she graduated summa cum laude in both Electrical Engineering and History.</BRAG> Perhaps entertainment and entertainment media are not the critical determinant of peoples' behaviour and life outcomes? Nah … that's just crazy talk.

About this time three weeks ago, I remember feeling glad this dumb, pointless storm-in-teacup seemed to have run it's course and we would be spared further wittering.

Is this really the first people have heard about it?

The Beast Rampant04 Apr 2017 9:03 a.m. PST

Linda Carter looks better, even now.

Gotta love the modern feminist movement. Gleefully contradictory, and always right, just like I'll always be wrong.

Jeepers. Consider the options. Finding an actress who will let her hair grow there, or have makeup people apply … hair pieces.

dsfrank04 Apr 2017 10:48 a.m. PST

I think it'd been a bigger deal if she had armpit hair

Cacique Caribe04 Apr 2017 10:50 a.m. PST

They should have cast this woman:

PS. She's the shorter one, in case you're wondering.

When I see that NYT page, the sidebar links have an image of a Syrian child with this header:

Amid chemical gas massacre that leaves dozens of children dead in Syria, Bana Alabed appeals to Trump again
04.04.17

Inequality in the US is evidently so terrible, we have people wringing their hands over Wonder Woman's body hair. Those Syrians should consider themselves lucky! :/

Ceterman04 Apr 2017 11:17 a.m. PST

I think it looks like a damn fine movie.

bsrlee04 Apr 2017 11:37 a.m. PST

Erm, I believe that the Ancient aka Classical Greeks were big on removing body hair, particularly for athletes and heroes. So WW being a very long lived, athletic & heroic Classical Greek -SHOULD- remove inconvenient hair. And be buffed to a nice lustre with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Why wasn't there any controversy over the TV series?

I'm always puzzled by the notion that we as mammals should have a problem with hair anyway. Who wants to be a lizard?

But as usual, women bear the brunt of the double-standard and criticism for never being good enough, pretty enough, smart enough…. reptilian enough….

Personal logo Mister Tibbles Supporting Member of TMP04 Apr 2017 12:41 p.m. PST

So what else does she shave? Dare I do a google images search?

And do super heroes need deodorant? So many questions.

Rubber Suit Theatre04 Apr 2017 12:43 p.m. PST

She's showing solidarity with PETA's stance on fur of all kinds.

Cacique Caribe04 Apr 2017 12:55 p.m. PST

Even Native Americans plucked their body hair because they didn't want to look primitive. They still do that in some parts of Latin America, Iran, India, etc. It's not a "Western" invention as some of the feminazis claim. And I don't see any feminazis condemning those cultures for starting the trend.

It must go back to a time when women like this stopped being sexy:

Do you have a problem with us lizard people? That's racist!!! :)

Don't know which is worse, those who have a problem with her having no underarm hair or those who have a problem with those who have a problem with her having no underarm hair.

Zephyr104 Apr 2017 2:25 p.m. PST

"The Fokkers don't seem to have any armpit hair, either."

That was a distinguishing characteristic of their French counterparts, however… ;-)

Wasn't she, at least in more recent version of her origins amde out of clay? So the sculptor just forgot, or decided not to add, some fine details… ;)

From Wikipedia:
"Following the 1985 Crisis on Infinite Earths series, George Pérez, Len Wein, and Greg Potter rewrote the character's origin story, depicting Wonder Woman as an emissary and ambassador from Themyscira to Patriarch's World, charged with the mission of bringing peace to the outside world. Pérez incorporated a variety of deities and concepts from Greek mythology in Wonder Woman's stories and origin. His rendition of the character acted as the foundation for the modern Wonder Woman stories, as he expanded upon the widely accepted origin of Diana being birthed out of clay. "

The title is written like that's a bad thing.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say I suspect she also won't have leg hair either.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP In the TMP Dawghouse05 Apr 2017 6:52 a.m. PST

Truthfully … either WW would be within "tolerances" with me. On the other hand, I wouldn't come anywhere near being "acceptable" … old fart

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP In the TMP Dawghouse05 Apr 2017 6:58 a.m. PST

Dinomen … That seems a "reasonable" science based version of what may have occurred on Earth [or elsewhere ?] if Dinos survived. And evolved … But who really knows ? huh?

The Beast Rampant05 Apr 2017 8:00 a.m. PST

I absolutely love how a discussion that is supposed to revolve around "unobtainable ideals of female perfection" decides to nail its colors to the mast of "armpit hair".

If a young girl is oppressed because she she thinks she is too chubby or too flat-chested or has too many freckles to measure up to some airbrushed magazine cover, that is a REAL issue.

If all you have to do is spend five minutes to shave your Bleeped texting armpits and you're 'good to go' in all of society's eyes, then do it already, or shut up about it.

This is all just more First World Whining.

We know that hair ain't where it's at!"

Covert Walrus05 Apr 2017 12:34 p.m. PST

Well, since she was born from clay, I wouldn't expect her to have any hair in point of fact.

And according to Aqua-man, that could technically make her a pot when looking at gender balance in the JLA

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP05 Apr 2017 2:51 p.m. PST

"unobtainable ideals of female perfection"

…because its only female anatomy that is being represented in an unrealistic and ideal way in comics and Greek mythology/art. As we frequently discuss on these boards, all the male members are muscular, cut, have perfect teeth, and roguishly tousled hair.

… or maybe I'm being oppressed, too.

Supercilius Maximus06 Apr 2017 3:37 a.m. PST

You are, because "The Patriarchy" subjugates men as well as women.

Apparently.
