In the last 10 games you played (or thereabouts), what is the oldest miniature you fielded?

Col Durnford03 Apr 2017 9:52 a.m. PST

Sudan war with RalPartha 25mm.

Heritage Dwarves?
Airfix Napoleonic French?
H&R WWII? (Not talking the new versions here.)
Heritage 15mm Napoleonics?
Old "John Carter of Mars" figures in a game offered which didn't come off?

I'm still buying and painting, but some of these guys have been around for a bit.

Just played a 15mm Roman Civil War game on Saturday using first generation MiniFigs from the early 1980s. On Thursday of week before last, I used my first generation MiniFig 15mm ECW troops in a battle I ran.

The oldest miniatures I own are from 1978--and I needed to put a bunch on the table---stirge

The oldest period I play involves a T-rex.

Oldest miniatures…. 25mm (small) Jack Scruby for a French Republican vs. Armee Conde' 1793 scenario late last year. All painted and still in the collections, but a bit short when matched to the modern 25mm Minifig or worse… the towering 28mm. Still, nothing like a "veteran" Jack Scruby miniature battalion routing away the modern miniatures. Also have Lannings and Garrison miniatures in medieval and ancient collections.

Well, I've only been gaming for 15 years, and in my last 10 games I don't think any of the armies were mine. But if my last 15mm Flames of War game was in those 10, then probably 10 or 11 years old.

Der Kriegspielers, Partha or Heritage figs from the early to mid 70's.

Grignotage03 Apr 2017 11:45 a.m. PST

Not mine, but my uncle has a bunch of old Warhammer orcs, and much of his 15mm ACW is minifigs, stone mountain, and falcon minis---they are as old as I am. I remember ooing and awwing over the Civil when I was 4 or so, having seen Glory a loving all things Civil War.

Mick the Metalsmith03 Apr 2017 12:15 p.m. PST

I have some mid seventies orcs that get trotted out often. "Custom Cast" on the bases. The same for my old gandalf and gimli figure the rest of the fellowship got destroyed in a flood. Blobby figs but my first.

Repainted a very awkwardly carved giant from the period recently. Lots of tattoos added.

Most of my fantasy figures are mid 80s 2nd Edition era Citadel, most of my 40k stuff is Rogue Trader era so late 80s.

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut03 Apr 2017 1:13 p.m. PST

Last ten games? All of mine have been fairly new. My two usual opponents, however, frequently field models from the early 70s.

The oldest models in my collection are some Traveller K'Kree in 15mm from Martian Metals in the 70s.

21eRegt03 Apr 2017 1:14 p.m. PST

15mm Napoleonettes from the early 80s.

Legbiter03 Apr 2017 1:16 p.m. PST

1970s-ish Atlantic Russian Revolution figures, core of the Red Guard in a Commands and Colors Napoleonic game using Russian Civil War as setting. AFVs were Horse Artillery.

25mm Minifigs ECW dating from early 1980s.

Kropotkin30303 Apr 2017 1:56 p.m. PST

Garrison S&S and Heroics and Ros 1/300th. H&R still available but they are old AFVs.

Most of my figures are old 25mms.

I had 1980's Macross model kits in our Mech Attack game at Adepticon two weeks ago.

durecell03 Apr 2017 3:17 p.m. PST

I have no idea how old they are but the player they belonged to said they're older than me.

Custom cast was Uncle Dukes first company in Dayton Ohio.
Went in there many times, collected all the "Custer men."

For Frostgrave I pulled out my mid 70's Paladin. A shame I tossed all my Airafix figures from the 60's.

15mm Minifigs second generation Napoleonic.

Custom Cast sold and cast Der Kriegspielers. A buddy of mine worked there. During lunch he was allowed to cast what he wanted as long as he paid for the metal. Duke would come into the Tin Soldier every once in a while. He was there for a 'Stain' painting demo. I used that technique for years.

Vintage, I think you're a clear winner--unless someone shows up with early Britains.

Have some 30's Britains, but not used in gaming.

Also some 20mm WWII figures 'made in occupied Japan'.

Oldest figures used in regular gaming would be 30mm
Russian Napoleonics by George VanTubergen, circa 1965.

My oldest in use is the relatively young White Dwarf 9the first one) from 1980 IIRC, currently prodding serious buttock in Frostgrave.

Last week I played a Napoleonic "what if" at the WHC.
I was using a French Dragoon regt.
I was chatting with Mark, (the proprietor) and he mentioned that said regt was in a magazine photo he had from 1974!

I buy a lot of old/used/unpainted minis from others, many of which have been on the table in the last month (about 10 games).

The longest in my possession ones from collecting would be after I moved back from Japan, so 17 years. Some of them hit the (~100 Hydra Heroclix) table a couple of weeks ago.

I do still have some D&D minis from the early 80's but they are in SOM's packed up stuff (so I kinda still have them). They haven't been on the table for about a year.

I would guess the Rogue Trader minis I have (also out in the last month) are early 80's vintage, even if I only picked them up in the last few years.

If I can go back a little farther, two months ago, we played a kaiju game in the yard with shipping box buildings, giant foam dice, 12" dolls/action figures, and SMWMBO and I as the kaiju. We are both vintage 1969.

20mm Scruby medieval (Soldiers of the Crusades) from the 1960's.

Winston Smith04 Apr 2017 11:11 a.m. PST

The core of my AWI British army is still the Hinchliffe figures I painted back in the '70s and '80s.
The cavalry in particular still look good.

The oldest miniatures are from 1960's maybe 1963? They have survived from when I started. They are Sherman's, and a Tiger from Roco and some Arifix first generation Germans.
