I bought the forged in battle Roman starter pack with the intention of using them for Impetus but the little bit of info on the back of the box has picked my interest.

Has there been any further new on release date of War and Empire?

Has anyone who has played the beta of WoE able how it compares to other rules?

Cheers

I haven't played the War & Empire rules but looked them over and compared situations to our Hail Caesar games. It was a little getting used to and the beta rules I used didn't make it easy, but it gives more detail and from what I understand a better 'game' in the sense that everybody should have an even chance to win.

They will do at least a third kickstarter focussing on Arthurian and dark age armies. The few figures they showed for this looked good. It would make sense for me to add those in the rules, so maybe the rules are delayed for this?

I sent an enquiry about War & Empire last December. The response was that "they are nearly completed and ready to be laid out then printed, they are looking good and should be ready in the new year." I have heard nothing further since then.

Based on my reading of the beta rules, War & Empire doesn't appeal to me personally. However, there is no need to take my word or anyone else's, as you can download a copy of the Beta rules and review them for yourself. Just go to the following W&E Kickstarter webpage and click on the Dropbox link provided: link

N.B. you will need a free Dropbox account in order to download the W&E beta rules and other documents.

The Young Guard – Can't give you any opinion on War and Empire but as a long time ancients player I would suggest you base your figures on the DBX model. This allows you to play any game that doesn't require removal of individual figures and even that can be accomplished with casualty caps etc.. I've enjoyed Impetus but found it a bit "samey" after a while. Lately, we have been playing Mortem et Gloriam and having a blast, have To the Strongest on the list to try and once in a while, switch over to Hail Caesar.

By the way, Mortem et Gloriam is well supported on the web, offers their very diverse and overall well researched army lists for free, and the rules mechanisms keep both players continually engaged.

As Alcibiates says, if you base your troops with a 40mm frontage/base you can play many other sets of rules.

Myself, I have settled on Impetus, and base all my minis on large unit bases. It's my personal choice, as I find that Impetus answers all my large-scale gaming needs.

For smaller stuff, I started with SAGA, but have ditched that in favor of Lion Rampant, which I find more to my personal tastes.

Great news! I assume they will fill in the Late Roman period as well? Where can I get more info?

Cheers,

Christopher

Yes I wanted to ask the same! Any info on the new kick starter?

Thanks for the replies all.

I don't know much about MeG apart that the author is the co creator of Fog. Is it a good game? Does it differ wildly from impetus?
