I'm not normally bothered at all by the constant bad manners you wade through on the internet but I've noticed a recent trend here on TMP that has rather pissed me off. (Perhaps my expectations for this place is too high but my general impression of the average member here is really good)

A few members seem to feel the need to comment on threads to express how boring the topic is. I could easily pick a few random topics that disinterest me and comment on how boring I find them but at the end of the day I realize that what I subjectively find uninteresting doesn't mean it's objectively boring. I'm not that narrow minded and even in my worse moments I still endeavour not to be a complete Bleeped text

Firstly what kind of A-Hole bothers to enter into a conversation to comment on how boring it is? In reality and outside the safety on the net the reaction to such a puffed up idiot would be swift and to the point.

Secondly if someone actually comments to say how pointless and wasteful it is to be involved in the conversation while actually contributing to the thread do they not see the absolute absurdity and contradiction of their action??

Are they so full of their own importance that they can't see that the world doesn't actually revolve around their own self inflated ego.

There's been a few Tango. Mainly the "How Many" Threads. I haven't been here in a few days and I read a whole bunch in the last half hour. At first I couldn't care less. I guess they wore me down. Ironically due to my lack of owning the items being discussed I wasn't all that interested in some of the topics myself but several individuals it seems needed to voice their distain.

Winston Smith31 Mar 2017 9:14 p.m. PST

I would say that the most recent "How many… do you have?" threads attracted more than their fate share of Debbie Downers whining about how much they disliked the whole idea of such threads.
Of course I wasn't much help either, calling them out. grin

WP….people! What are you going to do?

"WP….people! What are you going to do?"

The only sensible thing to do in the circumstances…I'm off to have a drink and sleep it off :)

Good night ;)

Cacique Caribe31 Mar 2017 10:23 p.m. PST

I might be at fault. I haven't necessarily been the most agreeable person here (or at home, for that matter) these last couple of years.

Please don't let anything I say take the joy out of the hobby.

+1 War Panda …except for the profanity!

War Panda31 Mar 2017 11:19 p.m. PST

Yes I apologize for the profanity and I was out of line and over the top with the way I expressed my criticism.

And Dan for what its worth I agree with Tango 100% you IMO are a gentleman.

Martin Rapier01 Apr 2017 1:22 a.m. PST

If I commented on all the threads I'm not interested in or find boring, I'd spend all day on TMP, LAF (especially LAF), TWW etc.

Life is too short, but clearly not for some people.

Just ignore the threads you aren't interested in and grow up.

I'm off to have a drink

-Why are you drinking? – the little prince asked.
- In order to forget – replied the drunkard.
- To forget what? – inquired the little prince, who was already feeling sorry for him.
- To forget that I am ashamed – the drunkard confessed, hanging his head.
- Ashamed of what? – asked the little prince who wanted to help him.
- Ashamed of drinking! – concluded the drunkard, withdrawing into total silence.
And the little prince went away, puzzled.
'Grown-ups really are very, very odd', he said to himself as he continued his journey.

War Panda, I find your last sentence quite offensive, It seems you believe that others aren't entitled to an opinion, or be allowed to express it.
In fact that last sentence might have been made for Winston Smith, and I quote, " After all, it's all about me"

Larry R01 Apr 2017 4:14 a.m. PST

Agreed. I do more ignoring around here than I used to.

Cacique Caribe01 Apr 2017 4:30 a.m. PST

@JARROVIAN: "War Panda, I find your last sentence quite offensive, It seems you believe that others aren't entitled to an opinion, or be allowed to express it."

Wait. Is THIS what you found so offensive?

"Are they so full of their own importance that they can't see that the world doesn't actually revolve around their own self inflated ego."

Seriously? That?

Also, WP's previous paragraphs make it quite clear what sort of person he's referring to … people who go way beyond just voicing a relevant opinion. Are you suggesting that WP shouldn't have an opinion about their horrible manners?

Da

The human condition is replete with self inflicted maladies…of which boredom is one of them.

As silence is considered a virtue…..complaining about self inflicted boredom is just another form of virtue signaling.

As my mother always used to tell me, "….don't be a jerk."

Northern Monkey01 Apr 2017 5:30 a.m. PST

Increasingly, TMP is becoming an unpleasant place to be. A small, but highly vocal minority drown out the decent majority.

I'm not sure why, it doesn't seem to happen on other forums where there is no need for a dawg house or anything vaguely like it.

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP01 Apr 2017 6:40 a.m. PST

Apparently people can see something I can't.

Three (orcs, stugs, tigers) "How many…" threads of the most current 100 is taking over the boards?

Likewise, one thread complaining about "How many …" threads is drowning out the voices of the oppressed proletariat masses?

If you don't want to read a "How many …" thread, don't read it.

If you don't want to read a thread about people complaining about, don't read it.

If you want to read a discussion on the topology of the OFM's knickers, seek professional help.

There, I think that about ties it up.

Northern Monkey01 Apr 2017 7:38 a.m. PST

Sums it up really.

zoneofcontrol01 Apr 2017 8:17 a.m. PST

"If you want to read a discussion on the topology of the OFM's knickers, seek professional help."

Oh, Great! Now I have THAT image burned into my brain. (Sorry John.)

Weasel01 Apr 2017 10:01 a.m. PST

So how 'bout them toy soldiers?

By interest, I figure some 90% of the topics on the site won't be of interest.
If that number changes to 90.01% because of a meme, not exactly the end of the world :)

At least they're still gaming related.

Rotundo01 Apr 2017 12:02 p.m. PST

War Panda, don't you realize you must entertain others? (lol). C'mon man, do something so we can live thru you!! I can't understand that either. I wade thru several threads until I find an interest. Part of the deal.

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP01 Apr 2017 12:03 p.m. PST

At least they're still gaming related.

I actually thought some of the posts about what tank goes where or when in WWII and why gamers do or don't use this or that when gaming was very relevant and interesting.

(Phil Dutre)01 Apr 2017 2:27 p.m. PST

IRL people choose their friends they want to hang out with, for good reason.

On discussion boards such as TMP, you don't choose. It's like entering a huge bar full of strangers who don't even tell you who they are, and who start random conversations, and interrupt ongoing ones, all the time.

As far as I remember, it has been like that since 1989.

Weasel01 Apr 2017 2:52 p.m. PST

>I actually thought some of the posts about what tank goes where or when in WWII and why gamers do or don't use this or that when gaming was very relevant and interesting.

That's what I meant. :)

That's what I meant. :)

I was agreeing with you, too. I guess the "actually" was targeted at people who were complaining.
Poor word choice on my part.

Dave Crowell02 Apr 2017 10:25 a.m. PST

This thread is boring and pointless. ;)

Well, someone had to say it.

I don't understand why people feel the need to jump on a thread just to say they aren't interested. I just don't read the threads that don't look interesting to me.

But, with the way things are lately there ahave been threads I have NOT started because I didn't want to deal with the potential thread-crappers.

Rotundo, don't you realize you must provide a ready-made avatar for the rest of the readers to live through you living through someone else???? C'mon, man, give us some heavy personality overwatch riffs. Provide some moody first-person existential narrative! We're getting starved for second-hand life experiences, man!

Rotundo06 Apr 2017 4:13 a.m. PST

I'm working on it Cap, unfortunately most of the guys I hang around with anymore are 15mm tall and devoid of personality. I mean, most of them move the same, look the same, any interesting characteristics end up feeling campy and forced after awhile. I would try to get some real friends but then I would need to shave and shower and stuff!!!!. Ya know what, I' ll get a cat instead! It will have to love and accept me. If it doesn't know one will know anyway. ( I actually did get a cat, named Hannibal). Name after the A-Team, of course. I mean what orher guy could it be? The guy from the movies was sick. Ok, off to play Orcs vs Romans…..gotta go, see you internet Buddies!!!!
