Ah, my apologies, I need to correct my previous comment:
"In April 1972 the Club ran its first open day for the public. Called "Salute" it was held at the Surrey Tavern at the Oval Cricket ground."

MajorB, thanks for your apology, that was very honerable.
However, it turns out SLW Salute was indeed before The Trumpeter Salute.
I recall attending these in the 70's, which was a few years ago now. I spoke with one of the senior members today at the convention, he said that the Trumpeter club put on conventions under the name VanCon, for Vancouver Canada in the 70's. It was only in the 80's that the Trumpeter club changed the name Salute. Thus I was erroneous in saying it was in the early 70's that The Trumpeter Salute originated.
With expanding of the internet, having two Salutes somehow wrankled the feathers of the SLW. They insisted that the Trumpeters change the name.
Thus came Trumpeter Salute. It seems a logical and fair compromise.
It is now my turn to apologize to you.
Our Trumpeter Salute is nothing like Salute, we get 150 to 200 attendees.
The games are fun, all participation. It is a great weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of gaming, meeting friends and kibitzing.
Cheers,
Thomas

I believe the South London Warlord's Salute was first.
