News this week : A spokesperson for the US Department of Defence confirmed to The Independent that a MC-130 aircraft dropped a GBU-43 bomb at 7pm local time. The weapon is known in the US Air Force by its nickname MOAB, or "mother of all bombs". MOAB stands for massive ordnance air blast In the News this week : A spokesperson for the US Department of Defence confirmed to The Independent that a MC-130 aircraft dropped a GBU-43 bomb at 7pm local time. I wonder if 4Ground can make a Cave in the side of a Hill for these figures then ? |

What came first: the nickname or the official terminology? If it's anything like say, SWAT, the acronym was decided on for public psychological effect and then a more officious designation was selected after the fact to fit it. |

Well, the biblical name would have come first. There's a town in Utah named that way – no idea if that had any bearing. My guess is that the MOAB acronym was slapped on the GBU-43 and the official version invented, with the Mother Of All Bombs one derived by someone shortly after. |
