News this week :
A spokesperson for the US Department of Defence confirmed to The Independent that a MC-130 aircraft dropped a GBU-43 bomb at 7pm local time.

The weapon is known in the US Air Force by its nickname MOAB, or "mother of all bombs". MOAB stands for massive ordnance air blast

I wonder if 4Ground can make a Cave in the side of a Hill for these figures then ?

What came first: the nickname or the official terminology?

If it's anything like say, SWAT, the acronym was decided on for public psychological effect and then a more officious designation was selected after the fact to fit it.

Well, the biblical name would have come first. There's a town in Utah named that way no idea if that had any bearing.

My guess is that the MOAB acronym was slapped on the GBU-43 and the official version invented, with the Mother Of All Bombs one derived by someone shortly after.
