Do you like yappy little dogs that run around in circles and bark incessantly?

dBerczerk28 Mar 2017 4:34 p.m. PST

Yes, generally with a freshly-prepared Béarnaise sauce and a nice Chianti.

Not so much

attilathepun4728 Mar 2017 4:45 p.m. PST

I prefer mine in a hearty stew with carrots and potatoes, accompanied by a hearty dark beer. That is all the little B&%@#$&@S are good for!

wrgmr128 Mar 2017 4:46 p.m. PST

dberczerk – I spit food out of my mouth I laughed so hard.

Answer to question – NO

pmwalt28 Mar 2017 4:59 p.m. PST

Not at all. Occasional barking is OK, but then shaddup

Winston Smith28 Mar 2017 5:03 p.m. PST

I've been selling door to door since 2009, including the Census.
The only dog that ever bit me was a Yorkie.
I have had Rottweilers lay their heads on my lap to be scratched. I have had pit bulls roll on their back to get their bellies rubbed. I have had German Shepherds fall asleep at my feet as I wrote up orders. English bulldogs have wanted to curl up in my lap.
And it was a Yorkie that bit me. Stupid little Bleeped text broke a tooth on my boot. Not from my kicking, but bad aim on his part.

Waste of wolf DNA.

Seriously? What does this have to do with anything?

Winston Smith28 Mar 2017 5:06 p.m. PST

My ex had a chihuahua that chased a Doberman away. Tiny dog but big heart. I actually liked the little shrimp.

Dave, they're minis!

I do enjoy small dogs. I have owned Mini-Schnauzers and Schnoodles (pure mini-schnauzer/pure mini-poodle mix) most of my adult life. Both tend to be on the intelligent side so more confident and much less prone to fearful barking.

Similar to Winston, I am a landlord and have tenants with pets. I've had pit bulls bring me toys and distract me from repair jobs and grass cutting. I had a 100-ish lb. Rottweiler sit on my foot, lean hard against me insisting on being petted almost knocking me over. I had a full grown German Shepherd sit on my lap wanting attention. The only dog I ever had an issue with was a 10 or 15 lb. mixed mutt who didn't like me coming around. The tenants always crated it when they had company.

Big dogs, small dogs, and everything in between. Love 'em all.

evbates28 Mar 2017 5:48 p.m. PST

Hell No, I have two across the street and two next door. They bark at everything and each other.

Titchmonster28 Mar 2017 6:08 p.m. PST

NO! My kids have one because my wife is insane and made us get one. Designer thing that cost a small fortune. Total pain in the ass.

Jeigheff28 Mar 2017 6:27 p.m. PST

Not so much, not because they're little, but because they're yappy. The human breeders are more at fault than the dogs themselves.

sillypoint28 Mar 2017 7:03 p.m. PST

Yep, blame their upbringing, taken from their family too early.

Shagnasty Supporting Member of TMP28 Mar 2017 7:14 p.m. PST

I like my yappy little Rat Terrier. Others, not so much.

D6 Junkie28 Mar 2017 7:18 p.m. PST

nope! That's why I have cats

Grignotage28 Mar 2017 7:31 p.m. PST

I've known plenty of very loveable little yippy dogs.

Given a choice, I like big dogs, but if a little chihuaha type shows up at our door as a stray in need of affection and care, it's hit the jackpot.

Grignotage28 Mar 2017 7:35 p.m. PST

I think the real problem is that some owners treat little dogs as perpetual puppies, because they remain small even as adults. These owners thus nver try to correct behaviors or train good behavior. So the little dog, untrained and spoiled, barks and barks and acts overly possessive of its territory.

Mako1128 Mar 2017 7:44 p.m. PST

Nope.

Love them!

My mini-Dachshund thinks she's a German Shepherd, so it's easy to put up with, and she only barks at intruders, and objects that appear to be intruders or threatening, like garbage can lids moving in the wind (she's mostly over barking at the garbage cans now, but will bark at vehicles that weren't there before, etc., etc., or that have moved to a new place – she doesn't like change, and is very alert, even at the age of 91+).

Funny thing is, she never barked for her first year of life. Learned the bad habit from my sister's dogs.

The Beast Rampant28 Mar 2017 8:44 p.m. PST

My min-pin/rat terrier-looking mutt is only very occasionally yippy. But she really acts like a weird mix of a Jack Russell and a cat.

cfuzwuz28 Mar 2017 9:57 p.m. PST

Love them. I have 2 yorkies. A 5 year old- 11pounds and a 6 month old- 7 pounds. They got in a fight the other night. Started by the little one. It went on for like 20 seconds before I broke it up. They were really going at it. The little one held her own. The older one is a private in the Kings Own Heavy Yorkshire Yappers. The young one does not yap at all. I also have a cat. The young one kisses(licks) her until the cat gets irritated. The older one would love to attack her but needs help so she half asses it until driven away. They all sleep together though.

I find them annoying.

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP29 Mar 2017 4:34 a.m. PST

No, never had or want one. I have a retired racing greyhound who dislikes the neighbor's yappy dogs.

Dave, they're minis!

Exactly. Mine are mini schnauzers, though for the most part they are not yappers.

Old Wolfman29 Mar 2017 6:47 a.m. PST

One of my neighbors has a cute little dog(Toy poodle mix),and when her human is taking her out for a walk, and I'm there too,She'll let me pet her, scratch behind her ears, and I talk to her a bit.

Buck21529 Mar 2017 9:11 a.m. PST

I have the same attitude as Mr. Blond from "Reservoir Dogs": "Are you gonna bark all day, little dog? Or are you gonna bite?"…

Weasel29 Mar 2017 10:00 a.m. PST

Nothing smaller than a corgi.

goragrad29 Mar 2017 10:38 a.m. PST

So, I am surveying for a lot boundary and one of the corners I am using is about 150 feet from a house across the street to the North. I show up the little terrier mix gets going. And keeps going.

When I set a point to the North to locate the northeast corner he is at the edge of his enclosure yapping when I am in sight.

What was really classic though was when I drove back past the house. The dog is in a portion of the front yard enclosed by a two foot hog wire fence. As I am driving past he starts from the north end and barrels along the fence till he literally runs into the south fence. He then backs up and runs at the south fence and gets about halfway up the corner. Backs up again and gets three quarters of the way up.

Last two tries as I drive by (wide lot) he is almost half over the fence but can't quite make it.

Have been up that street 4 times and the dog does this every time. It is classic…

And for all you people who say good things about big dogs like pit bulls and Rottweilers when was the last time you read about Yorkies killing a small child. Never happens but pit bulls kill people all the time in America. HATE big, mean dogs AND the people that own them.

This is true to some degree. If your rottweiler behaved like your average chuwawa it would have ti be put down quick. But it's also the breeds faults. Mental stability ia not something alot of Breeders of small dogs care about. And a lot of the barking behaviour of those small toy dogs are simply a symptom of mentally weak dogs.

But some dogs are suppose to bark. Dachshunds are breed to bark ect. And that's generally not the same type of bark you get from a Tibeten spaniel or chuwawa.

Not enough meat on them.

Nope.

USAFpilot30 Mar 2017 8:31 a.m. PST

I really like it when they jump on your leg and slobber all over your nice pants, not.

I find it disgusting when I see an owner allow a dog to lick their face. People say how cute, and I think to myself, where has that tongue been, probably licking some other dogs rear end, yuck.

Norman D Landings30 Mar 2017 9:00 a.m. PST

Varies. Spoilt, quivering, inbred, dysfunctional little purse-riders are annoying, but way less so than their typical owners.

In a landfill-packing exercise, the owners would go in first.

We had a Jack Russell when I was a kid – proper terrier, and a fantastic dog. Happy, sociable, cheerfully fighty, quick on the uptake, hyper on exercise but not so around the house, not at all yappy.

If I had my way, all of these yappy snappy little ankle-biting freaks (they are all the result of selective breeding gone wild) would be sent to Cruella da Ville's Home for Lost Dogs.

Cacique Caribe30 Mar 2017 4:41 p.m. PST

No yappy dogs, yappy kids or yappy women.

No. I don't even like barky. But I do like dogs. They are proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy!

No. Well that's that question sorted out. Next!
