Mark 1 | 28 Mar 2017 1:42 p.m. PST |
IIRC my current count is about 84 of various versions, all 6mm: M4A3 75mm(w) late war by GHQ: 1 company (15 tanks) M4 75mm mid-war by C in C: 1 company (15 tanks) (with M34A1 wide mantlet, but unhappily no applique plates … may have to kit-bash them) M4A1 75mm early-war by GHQ: 1 company (15 tanks) M4A1 75mm early-war by Skytrex (yes, the OLD Skytrex 1/300): (10 tanks) (no longer using, but still available in the box) M4A3 105mmH late war (by GHQ): 2 sections (4 tanks) M4A3 76mm(w) HVSS late war ("Easy-8s") by GHQ: 1 platoon (5 tanks) M4A1 76mm(w) HVSS late war by C in C: 1 platoon (5 tanks) M4A1 76mm VVS mid-war by GHQ: 1 platoon (5 tanks) M4A3E2 75mm "Jumbo" by H&R: 1 platoon (5 tanks) Sherman Vc "Firefly" by C in C: 5 tanks (Don't really do Brits anymore, but they're still in the box) Not quite enough. Still need 2x of each of the major 75mm versions to complete the companies. If I were happy with the M4 75mm VSS mid-war tanks I'd add another company, but the lack of applique plates puts me off. And I should put some M4A3 76mm VSS in the set as well. Still, in ETO or in Sicily I can field a US AD Armored Battalion (2 companies mediums, 1 company light). In Sicily I'm a couple tanks down (due to the 15 v. 17 tank companies), but in ETO I can fill in with a couple 76mm or Jumbos per company. -Mark (aka: Mk 1) |

Blimey, I'd have to count them in 6mm. A British Regiment with extra Fireflies to allow for x2 Fireflies per platoon for late war. That's 19 per Company x4 + 16 Fireflies + x5 Flails + Rgt HQ = ~100. All GHQ. For US a tank Bn with a mix of Easy-8's and M4A3's, mostly GHQ but some CinC with sandbagged hulls. Also Jumbos and DD's and Aunt Jemimas and other specials. Hmm, how many's that? About 80? Plus Israeli: 10 of them. I use US for Soviet. So about 190 to 200. Sheesh, didn't know I had that many. |

Oh geeze, I was afraid someone would ask this. The Sherman is easily my most numerous tank and all are 15mm. I 'think' I have: 9 M4A3 in both 75 and 76mm 6 M4A1 with five toting 75mm and one 76mm 14 Sherman Vs for my Irish Guards squadron, 75mm 4 Sherman V Fireflies So that is 33 Shermans in 15mm. Everything is Battlefront except the 5 75mm M4A1s. I plan to bring my US M4A1 force up to company strength this summer. Right now they support my rifle and armored infantry companies. The M4A3s are the bulk of my son's '45 tank company. My tanks are oriented for Normandy and September '44 actions. I plan to fight out the hedgerows with the Guards and Second Armored, and then to Arracourt with Fourth Armored, back to the West Wall with Second Armored, and then a dash up Hell's Highway with the Guards again. However my boy, who is in love with the Pershing, is pushing me to go '45 and Remagen with him. I can see doing that next summer. |

Hey Mark1, I thought you'd have more than that? Yeah, BB, I thought I was putting up some real numbers, but now I feel like a bit of a slacker with only ~84!
Still, my US Army force is only a more recent focus. Eastern Front is where I started, and where I have done my multi-battalion gaming. For Tunisia in particular I often wind up providing both sides, and given the smaller size of my Italian force I'm kind of limited to battalion or less in force size. As I say, I could see adding another company of mid-war M4s. But I'm not too enthused about taking that step until one of my preferred vendors comes up with a US mid-war production Sherman with applique armor. I might kit-bash the ones I have. I'm thinking about cutting and gluing paper on to the hull sides to make the applique plates, but the challenges of cutting something so small into consistent shapes is rather daunting. -Mark (aka: Mk 1) |

My Soviet forces have 21 of the diesel engine versions, and my US troops have at least three battalions of 54 each. So just shy of 200. Still Paul Heiser Models makes over 22 different variations and I intend to get many more in the next couple years as I move from WWII Soviet and WWII German to WWII US Army. I have been refurbishing the collection and bringing units to completion in the last five years. All in HO scale. Mike Bunkermeister Creek bunkermeister.blogspot.com |

At the height of my 1/35 54mm madness, I owned about 50 Sherman's, for my Guards armoured division, with 75s, 17pdrs, flails, arty f.o.o tanks, command tanks. They all got an outing at the WHC back in 2013, when I put on a massive 'GoodWood' game. Sold the lot of my extensive 1/35 collection on my move to the States. link John |

1/76, British, 13, plus FOO tanks. 1/72, British, 10. 1/72, US, 8. And I know there will be more, just a matter of time. I like the cluttered look; you can go to town on the stowage and spare tracks so each one is unique. One of my FOO Shermans is an Airfix one from the early 70's.. my oldest surviving wargame item. |
