Me, too! Fantastic place. And I went nuts in the gift shop, bought nearly a dozen CDs of period and contemporary French military music I've never seen anywhere else. There isn't a Napoleonic gamer in the universe who wouldn't enjoy a pleasant day at this museum. |

For my wife, who is an artist and a French Literature nut, this is one of her favorite places in Paris. |

I snapped everything in the windows last year..some reflection persisted, I wish I'd had a polarizing filter. Some of the exhibits were mis-named by the curators. One thing struck me – the size of the shakoes were pretty big compared to your average head, how did the infantry keep the darn things on?? Overall, a very interesting experience, and one that sits beside my chance visit to the muses de l'emperi, years ago..anyone trying to paint up the French 5th hussars should check out the shade of blue dolman sported by the mannequin there..! |

Last time I was there there was an awards ceremony going on, for conduct in Afghanistan, which meant that my students weren't able to see everything. However, seeing the parade etc made up for it. Present were La Legion, Spahis, Marsouins and infantry. What struck me was that until the band started playing, those on parade, although in formation, were chatting to their mates and looking around themselves. In my experience of British forces, that simply would not have happened. A curious difference and distinction. |

As a note, those British horse artillery gun teams in one of the photos are by Britains and are the first version of that set-quite valuable. |

What's interesting to me is that second photo in the OP. That is a three-deep line of guys drawn up in the formation, spacing, and indeed headcount number of a lot our wargames units. I.e there are two 18-figure units there with a command figure off to the right. Isn't it interesting how smart that dark grey rig looks in real life yet how dull they would be as an actual tabletop unit? |

I was intrigued by the Memorial labelled "Nonce Polonais". Seemed a bit much to record the poor chap thus, whatever he did in life. Then dawned on me. French. Polish Nuncio……thanks goodness for that |

Brechtel198: Because I will most probably never see it in person, could I impose upon you to make a few comments on what you saw when your return? Certainly, as piper909 said above, a Napoleonic gamer's dream come true. Thanks, John Miller |

I'll post some comments when I get back. It is a magnificent military museum. I've been there a few times and it is still amazing every time I go there. I haven't been there in awhile, so it might have changed some. |
