Are you well educated? Did you know this? 1. Yes 2. No 3. I recently found out – I had to sit down I was so stunned. 4.Lincoln? But he got shot in Season 2 of the 100. Does he come back in Season 3 ? And they make him President ?!? 5. What are you getting at? I am suspicious and detect some whiff of an ulterior motive in this question. 6.Not a wargamer. |

I thought he was Continental (with a vinyl roof). I'm sure I had a Corgi car of a Lincoln Continental: one with primitive fibre optic headights. Or wasn't he a vampire hunter…? I get all my information from films and the internet… John T |

I believe you are correct in both cases – when the poll runs these should be acceptable responses 7 he was Continental (with a vinyl roof). 8 wasn't he a vampire hunter |

20th Maine: In the 1860 Election, he ran as a Republican. In 1864 facing the possibility of losing the nomination due to a splitting party and the fact that the country was tired of "the war", he decided to solidify his chances by not running as a "Republican" but by forming "The National Union Party" which essentially although wasn't "Republican" was made up of Union/War/Lincoln Supporting Republicans. So in essence, your topic is only 50% correct… |

1. Were you aware that he was the candidate of the National Union Party in 1864 for his re-election? Also that the GOP was a different thing back then, though some policy ideals remain the same. The world was a different place back then, too. However, the Republican platform shifted center in the early to mid-20th Century, then shifted back in the last quarter of the 20th century. By some standards, it shifted further, by others not quite all the way back to its origins. |

1. One would expect American wargamers to know this. The general public? What? I recall back during Reagan's presidency a poll was taken. We were involved in two bush wars in Latin America. The number of Americans who could correctly identify who the US government supported in each of the two wars was 25%, the number you would expect if it was totally random. I was astonished back then. No longer. |
Tgerritsen | 27 Mar 2017 9:07 a.m. PST |
My first response to reading the title was, "What is this a joke?" I'd be more interested in knowing who DOESN'T know this and more importantly, why? More shocking to most folks is that Martin Luther King, Jr. was a registered Republican. |
The Beast Rampant | 27 Mar 2017 9:25 a.m. PST |
I would expect that most Non-Americans HERE would know that. Lincoln is a major player in a major war that (to me at least) a surprising number of foreigners take great interest in. And I assume it's possible, with such an Anglocentric wargaming base, that American TMP'ers may have a leg up on the average Brit. But I can't make that call. I don't know if their education system is as crappy as ours now is. |

Which of them? Abraham was indeed a Republican (did not know about the National Union Party. I hear and hear how the country was ready to throw in the towel with the secessionists in 1864, but Lincoln still won, and with a pretty good margin) Robert Todd Lincoln was indeed a Republican, serving two Republican administrations. Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith No idea if he was a Republican. |
