Where are Shapeways orders shipped from? I bought a couple of 1/4800 ship packs via Shapeways this morning, and would be interested to know for future reference.

I was invoiced in Euros and appeared to pay VAT on the order. I live in the UK which charges on items over a certain value from the US, so orders will have to be small if they come from there.

There are many manufacturers represented on Shapeways. From where the items ship depends on the maker. I have packages from Long Island City, NY and Apple Valley, CA on my desk right now.

My concern is that I don't want to place a larger order then get hammered for import duties and handling costs. Anything from outside the EU tends to attract these extra costs, usually above £15.00 GBP or £20.00 GBP excluding postage.

I believe they have (at least) two main points of origins for manufacturing and shipping, one being the Netherlands as mentioned and the other being New York. The former should be used for European orders, the latter for North American ones.

That makes a lot of sense actually, the checkout does add VAT like a European shop would.

I've ordered in the past (from UK) and they have come from Eindhoven so their local VAT at whatever rate applied but no further fees or duty.

I have recently took the plunge and orderd stuff and again for my UK address, the package came from Eindhoven.
