I have played George Gush (off and on for several decades), and I own Pike and Shotte, as an example of some more recent. But I am looking for rules recommendations for Thirty Years War in 15mm. What are some people's favorites, and recommendations? |

I use a slightly modified Cavaliers and Roundheads and By Fire and Sword |

I had thought By Fire and Sword was mostly Eastern Europe, I guess I have to look closer. |

They are expanding it a bit – but I modify it as well to make it work But yes focused on the east |

Baroque: the Renaissance variant of Impetus. |

Field of Glory: Renaissance is pretty good – better than the ancients set. |

By Fire and Sword can be easily adapted for later stages of war, there's enough 'Western' armies there to choose from :) |

Liber Militum; Tercios. elkraken.es/released/en/tercios One base is a unit, card activation, eight or less dice for resolution of combat or morale. Covers the TYW, with it's companion book, "Kingdoms", expanding the game to ECW and Eastern Europe. |

DBR is by far my favorited, and I play a lot of ECW. |

Any comments on Father Tilly or Warfare in the Age of Discovery? |

Father Tilly had a following. But haven't heard anything about it in years. I REALLY wanted it to be a game I could play for the period. Just way too much math as I recall. There was the odd bit here and there as well. But the math stands out. I have used Chipco's Age of Gunpowder to refight Lutzen. I like them. Thanks. |

Father Tilly also had a bunch of versions, the last one, which I think is still available as a pdf from Wargames Vault, was at a smaller scale than the free versions, so you'd have to break big battles into separate games. The last free version (v.3 or 4) was one I thought had a lot of good things going for it and worked for large scale battles, but I'm not sure if it's still available. |

Of course, there is always Cavaliers & Roundheads (with TYW mods)… (just thinking out loud) |

I have played Swedes and Poles in 15mm using – Renaissance Principles of War I thought it worked really well for that period and would work well for the whole of the TYW. |

We use FoG-R for our TYW games.. They allow for some of the variation in unit size and tactics. Our main complaint is that the artillery is too weak for the TYW but that can be changed with some home mods. |

Pity there isn't a Command & Colors variant for renaissance. It seems like the perfect engine for the period. |

I too am very curious about Tercio. It shows Impetus influences but has some interesting departures from that system. Anyone played it yet? |

Where can I get the free Tercios brief rules in English, in order to see if this game is my cup of tea and worth further investment? The only downloads I can find are in Spanish. |
