I hosted the Perry twins and David Brown (author of GdB) for a play test of some rules I've been working on, 'Field Force Commander'. Mike Perry has put some nice pictures and an AAR up … link The rules (like British Grenadier!) offer smaller or larger troop scales -about 1:10 versus 1:25. We fought this one at the 1:10 scale because the commands in this battle were groups a few companies strong versus some Afghan militia and regular forces, including the famed Armstrong 12 pounders fresh from the battle of Maiwand. There's no release date on 'Field Force Commander' at the moment – but the rules are basically complete, it's just a matter of honing them with a few more play tests, EC |

EC, The game looks great, and your new rules set sounds very promising! |

Looks like a fun game and I am interested in checking out the rules when published. The figures look very nice. Do they all belong to you? |

Mad Guru – thank you kindly, your own efforts have been an inspiration. Maybe one day we can get together and do the battle of Kandahar that followed the Deh Koja action, a proper multi-brigade battle. Rhingyll – Glad you liked the look of it. The figures were mine except for the 7th Fusiliers and the dark coated Afghan regulars seen moving through the compound, which were units Michael Perry bought to the party. All the others, including the officers and Sikhs visible behind the 7th Fusiliers as they came out of the Kabul gate, are mine. Naturally when the rules get the the point of being published, I will let everyone know via this and other boards, EC |

EC, I have one picky follow-up question, based on being aware of your own extensive knowledge of the area in question: are there really palm trees in and around Kandahar? |

Great photos and AAR! I have run Deh Koja at least three times and it's always a hard slog for the Imperial troops. I love the way the original action required such extreme coordination by the columns, just begging for things to go wrong. Almost like a WW2 commando raid. I look forward to your rules being published. I am still looking for the perfect colonial rules set. |

MG, looks like there were no palms in sight in 1841

Not in 1841, but in 1880 it looks like there were according to this picture, which is obviously a true and accurate rendition.

Hahahahahahahah…… Oh my G-d save the Queen Empress….. You guys have made me laugh rather heartily, palms away. |

MG – I believe I've seen date palms in the Kandahar area but maybe a more recent addition? EC |

Mark- How many figures were in each company of British troops in your game/rule set? 12? |
Eclaireur | 08 Apr 2017 9:29 a.m. PST |
No we actually did them as six figure companies, though you could under certain circs used nine or even 12 fig companies. By and large the rules treat figures in six fig multiples. You can really have a battalion represented by anything from 24 to 72 figures because of course the companies were often under-strength or detached, EC |
