Well, since some other guy asked about the Tiger someone might as well ask about the lowly STUG. A million years ago I bought the AH game Storm Over Arnhem and fell in love with those two measly STUG IIIs that came in the game. I had never heard of them or seen them in a movie so I got curious about them.

Now they are my favorite late war German "tank". The things were ubiquitous to the Germans, well, as ubiquitous as any tank could be for the Germans. I think just about every Flames of War army list has access to them because they were the most numerous tank like vehicle made by the Germans: some 8400 in the G configuration.

I love them so much that I actually have 10 of the little boogers in 15mm. My favorite list, by the way, is the 352's STUG Abteilung which had exactly 10 STUGs. Toss in my favorite infantry type, the lowly but awesome German grenadier, and you have a tough underdog that can easily hold its own against my hoards of US infantry and Shermans.

So how many STUGs do you have in your motor pool?

A. Hoards and hoards of the things. You can never have enough STUGs.

B. I've got enough to do the job. Hey, if you're a German player then you gotta have them.

C. I have 1-2 as a fig leaf to show that I'm not a total munchkin, or I got them in the Open Fire set and haven't gotten rid of them yet. Don't really use them though.

D. STUGs? I don't need any stinking STUGs! That's what poor trashy, or historical, German players take.

E. STUGs? Isn't that the German word for "idiot?"

3 in 28mm – all for my Finns, along with 3 T34/75s. Need someone to make 28mm Finnish tank crew now.
Several in 6mm for the Herman Gering Div (when I find the box I might get an accurate count).

I have 24 in 1/285 and probably 8 or 10 in 15mm. Our club loves 'em. No WW2 game is complete without at least 3 or 4.

The Nigerian Lead Minister26 Mar 2017 8:17 a.m. PST

I've got ten, to do the same list you mentioned!

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut26 Mar 2017 8:20 a.m. PST

I have one less than I will need if I get around to doing 28mm Germans for Bolt Action. Which is to say, none.

zoneofcontrol26 Mar 2017 8:32 a.m. PST

I have 2 in 15mm

About the same as all of my other 1/87 German tank types, a battalion's worth at 1 stand = 1 platoon. Plus as many 15mm as get used by all of the girls high schools in Girls Und Panzer.

The G Dog Fezian26 Mar 2017 9:30 a.m. PST

B , in 15mm.

i think I have four.

Was debating augmenting them with some Hetzers.

Mako1126 Mar 2017 9:31 a.m. PST

A and F – that's a military secret AND too many to count, in various scales.

TMPWargamerabbit26 Mar 2017 9:36 a.m. PST

18 complete and sure there are another 6 to build. Ausf A to G. Two to four of each version. 20mm or 1/76 scale for FOW. They are "cute" compared to the box M4 Sherman or swift "drive to Berlin don't stop" T-34.

Texas Jack26 Mar 2017 9:36 a.m. PST

Iīve only got two in 20mm, but I donīt do anything after North Africa.
However, I plan to do the Eastern Front so I will need tons of them then!

redmist112226 Mar 2017 9:37 a.m. PST

B-ish…I have three in 1:48 scale…plus I have two more in unbuilt.

Johannes Brust26 Mar 2017 10:00 a.m. PST

myxemail26 Mar 2017 10:34 a.m. PST

Three StuG IIID in 15mm
One StuG IIIG in 1/56

My StuGs outnumber my Tigers 4:1

Mike

Patrick R26 Mar 2017 10:50 a.m. PST

7 in 28mm, a few dozen in 10mm

Ney Ney26 Mar 2017 11:28 a.m. PST

2 in 15mm, which is a lot of tank for me!

Chuckaroobob26 Mar 2017 11:32 a.m. PST

I had one in 1/56, but gave it away. Too ugly to ever paint and use.

Mark 1 Supporting Member of TMP26 Mar 2017 11:56 a.m. PST

In 6mm I have 4 StuG Ds, and 4 StuG Gs.

But I don't play or collect Germans. The StuG Ds are a "guest" unit. I have on several occasions found an opponent who does play German, but doesn't have early war stuff. Most of the infantry and arty at this scale can be used for early war or late war, and as I enjoy playing early war, whether France 1940 or Barbarossa 1941, I have a few things I can loan out for a game (in addition to the StuG Ds I have a few PzJgr 1s, Pz Is and IIs, and Pak 36s).

The StuG Gs are for my Romanians in late war clashes.

B in 20mm.

Who asked this joker26 Mar 2017 12:12 p.m. PST

I have one as a 1:72 scale card model. I could have as many as I need.

Wulfgar26 Mar 2017 1:03 p.m. PST

I'm resisting the urge to game WW II, but if I did play Late War Germans, probably with Chain of Command, I'd have one for sure. Darn, that sounds fun.

forrester26 Mar 2017 1:25 p.m. PST

Two so far and two more to do.
A very useful vehicle, which often took the place of proper tanks in panzer divisions due to shortages.

Greg G126 Mar 2017 2:23 p.m. PST

B at least 28, 6 short barrelled STuG IIIB's, 10 STuG IIIF's and 12 STuG IIIG all in 6mm
I also have 12 STuG IV's also in 6mm.

durecell26 Mar 2017 2:32 p.m. PST

I have 2 in 15mm. That might not seem like much but it's my second most numerous German vehicle.

Warmaster Horus26 Mar 2017 2:44 p.m. PST

All 28mm:
4-StuG III D
5-StuG III G (3 w/skirting)
1 Brumbar
1 StuG III W/105

Florida Tory26 Mar 2017 4:39 p.m. PST

B. I think I have 4, maybe 5. One of my sons has them at his house so I don't have a direct count available.

Rick

redbanner414526 Mar 2017 6:12 p.m. PST

8 in 15mm.

mwindsorfw26 Mar 2017 6:29 p.m. PST

In 6mm, short and long barrel, with and without skirts.

Rich Bliss26 Mar 2017 6:57 p.m. PST

Zero. They were very rare in North Africa and I haven't come across an action where they participated yet. I'm certainly not opposed to them. Actually Imrather like them.

Jamesonsafari26 Mar 2017 7:22 p.m. PST

10 in 15mm
2 early war short barrel
5 mid war
3 late war with schurzen

Rod I Robertson26 Mar 2017 7:47 p.m. PST

Choice B but tending towards A.

1 X StuG IIIG in 1/35 scale, 1 X StuG IV in 1/35 scale, 7 X StuG III B in 15mm, 4 X StuG III G in 15mm, 4 X StuG IV in 15mm, 14 X StuG III G in 6mm, 14 X StuG IV in 6mm.

Cheers and good gaming.
Rod Robertson.

Martin Rapier26 Mar 2017 11:14 p.m. PST

B.

In 6mm, maybe a dozen, mostly long barrelled, with a few short barrelled.

In 15mm, nine, two short barrelled, eight long and one StuH. Various models and configs.

In 20mm, three, all long barrelled.

In 54mm, one, my old Tamiya model.

I have a few 6mm Stug IV as well.

7dot62mm27 Mar 2017 1:12 a.m. PST

B. In 20mm I have…

18 built
22 unbuilt

…there are a myriad of different models and paint schemes and nationalities. And both Stug IIIs and IVs. Despite the 18 built ones I have I still don't have a decent ausf G for, say, Normandy.

uglyfatbloke27 Mar 2017 1:13 a.m. PST

My wife has four in 28mm and two in 54mm. I'm never happy to see them.

langobard27 Mar 2017 2:34 a.m. PST

In 15mm 30x StuG and StuH with about a dozen more to make up.

In 28mm 4 StuGs.

Answer there is 'A'!
