Can anyone recommend any strategy games that focus on the North African campaign? I've tried Theatre of War – Afrika, but found the controls really awkward and the repetition of the same voice clips really irritating. Plus it was bloody hard. Quite enjoyed the North Africa scenario in Hearts of Iron III, but I'd prefer something more "zoomed in", as it were. Company-level, maybe. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

Steel Panthers in its winSPWW2 incarnation can run a very satisfying Africa campaign. You can play a long campaign as pretty much any power (including Italians if you like) or create your own custom campaigns. Scale is usually around battalion but you can run a pretty fun company level game too if you make the maps smaller. link |

Some of the custom campaigns are very good. I can't think of one specifically for desert though. |

You could have a go at Vulcan: link and Desert Rats link if you don't mind old school PC games. The Arnhem one was pretty good too: link |

It comes with hundreds of scenarios and a handful of campaigns. As mentioned you can create custom campaigns as well and it'll match up suitable terrain types by date. |

I have played hundreds of hours of SPWAW, and second the suggestion. If you like old-school games, you might also look at Combat Mission 3: Afrika Korps. I believe you can download a free demo. Edit: I see we are talking about slightly different flavors of SP. SPWAW is here: link |

I've played both versions, they're both pretty solid. winspww2 is what I ended up with, since it seems to be updated quite frequently. |

You might want to try the Panzer Campaigns titles. link I think the units are company level, may be up one from that. Not the squad/individual tank scale of SPWAW. |

Spwaw and winspww2 are rather different. Both good, but i play winspww2. |
