I'm in the middle of assembling a 28mm Desert Rats British force using Perry Miniatures. Is it appropriate to mix figures with trousers and shorts? I notice that Perry has the plastic figures in shorts and most of their metal sets in trousers. Thanks for your help. Jim |

Just don't do one short leg and one trouser leg. |

Serge trousers are certainly seen in the colder weather/regions, e.g. Tunisia in 1943. |

Trousers were also issued in the same Khaki Drill material as the shorts. |

I recall reading one time that the shorts, "looked very nice in the News Reels for the folks back home", and were nice for the boys in the rear with the gear! However, the front line troops didn't wear shorts, as the sand fleas and flies had a nasty habit of turning bare skin especially on the legs into very bloody and nasty infected sores. So the front line troops were highly encouraged to not wear the tropical shorts. |
