Have you guys never yielded to the temptation of adding Ottomans to the melting pot…????
(Could even be used with your Swedies…)

Other than the flags being much too big for cavalry standards it appears several of the pancerni are equipped with the same style lances as the hussars…with the circular hand guard. To the degree that the pancerni carried the lance, which was only in the later portion of the 17th century, those lances were standard lances similar to those carried by other lance armed cavalry, not the same style as the hussars.

Great unit – and to be fair I think the pancerni did in fact use great big flags as opposed to the usual small cavalry guidon/standard

jocknroll22 Mar 2017 10:26 a.m. PST

We had the underwear of the pancerni painted in a very accurate shade for late 17th century un-dyed Eastern European rough weave linen. Unfortunately that is not visible in the shots. I was particularly pleased that the painter was able to match the chain mail rust patches (visible with a magnifying glass) to the same colour tones as the 'Gossan' type Triassic iron ore deposits mined in the Muschelkalk Basin of southern Silesia up until about 1847.

He'll try harder next time on his mistakes

Chokidar23 Mar 2017 8:35 a.m. PST

shame on you!!! a can just imagine a figure of a Pancerni weaving his underwear..
or the whole unit doing the Pancerni Weave…

Boy am I chastised jocknroll except that you have no any idea what you're talking about…rather than addressing the issue you want to assume the comment is too rigid…rigid perhaps but also correct. I assume if you have a Napoleonic army you think it too rigid to assume the French will be in blue or white uniforms rather than red or whatever color you just happen to want at the time….this smacks of so much European relativism…

Here is a Polish dragoon banner in the Swedish trophy collection. It measures 205 mm in length and is 157 mm high. Don't want to get in a p--sing contest, but to say someone doesn't know what they are talking about, when that person never contended that the size of the flags was literally correct is rather harsh.

oldnorthstate23 Mar 2017 8:47 p.m. PST

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you made an error in your post…157mm measures to just over 6 inches, not 6 feet, which is about as tall as that banner appears. 6 inches seems a little small to me but given the difficulty of holding a large flag on foot I suspect it is even more challenging when on a moving horse…

jocknroll24 Mar 2017 2:08 a.m. PST

:) Yup, I have no idea, never have had. I know about iron ore though, I am a Metallurgist

jocknroll24 Mar 2017 2:21 a.m. PST

:):) actually, I missed European Relativism… priceless… you are an artist .. information and insults (I think) in the same mail.. I defer to your mind, morals and humility, the world is a better place for all three..

'The Management of Product-Related Scepticism in the Potential Customer Base by the Application of Heavy Sarcasm' would make an excellent seminar in a sales training course. Perhaps someone could pick that up…

I already did.. that is my day job, thanks for the validation of the concept STT

Old North, thanks for giving me the benefit. I meant to write centimeters, approximately 61 inches on the hoist and 81 inches on the fly.

Barry,

Lovely figures – lots of character. The banner is a thing of beauty.

Really impressed by the basing – unfortunately resembles our back lawn…
