Interesting. Looks like they "jazzed up" Dark Sword's interpretations. Which is fine, some of them are pretty mundane, and not particularly eye-catching for bare plastics.

So, does this mean that the Fantasy Flight lost the license for Game of Thrones, with their Battlelore-based "Battles of Westeros" game? Or is this another take on the same subject matter?

I'm assuming that since Dark Sword is doing the minis they will be more like 32mm than 28mm. Those look as though they will be easy to paint as well but I have to admit that I am not a big fan of molded on heraldic devices. Certainly it makes painting easy but it's remarkably unrealistic and also limits these minis pretty much to just GoT units. Of course this is dedicated more to the books but with the series ending in 2018 I kind of wonder if this might be coming out a bit too late. True we have the next two books still, assuming that they are ever finished but I think it's HBO that's been mainstreaming the popularity. I do note that even here there can be a collective groan whenever someone thread. Still I am somewhat looking forward to this. I wonder what they will provide to let you do the Battle of the Blackwater or if they'll backdate it and let you do the Trident?

Looking over the figures and from the correct title for the serias – A Song of Ice and Fire, it appears (thank goodness) that the look and tone come from the books. Some HBO stuff has slipped in (round shields for the Starks & I wish they had kept the helm shape) but overall they have followed DarkSwords lead in using "Martin" approved style (if a bit exaggerated).

Size may be a problem (as know with Dark Sword) – not compatialble with any other mini line -good for company bad for gamers.

Mechanics look FASA influnenced which may lead to too many speical powers/cards etc. Alternating activations not great for medieval battle but many leaders can activate a "battle line". Round bases annoying for all but skirmish though it sounds like there will be movement trays.

Overall very promising – but its a kickstarter – never count your kickstarters before they hatch.

CMON is a reliable Kickstarter. This is one of those projects that's not really appropriate for Kickstarter (at least in its original intent). CMON already has the capital and infrastructure, as well as the base of support, for this project to roll. Just based on what we've seen, this is already in the production pipeline – the KS is just an early influx of cash.

I like a lot of the HBO designs, and I'm not wedded to "Martin's approved vision" blah blah, the Darksword AoSoIaF line is great, so this is a good pairing.

I can understand CMON going with the books. Since this is a partnership with Dark Sword, and they have the rights and permission from GRRM they don't have to acquire rights from HBO. I'm assuming though that HBO would object if the figures looked too much like HBO figures and especially if Jon Snow and Danerys Targaryen looked too much like Kit Harrington and Emilia Clarke, to say nothing about getting the licensing rights to the actor's images. All in all I'll be following this with interest, I like a lot of the DS figures and if these are close I would be interested.

Dark Sword is the Martin approved version and very different than the HBO version.

Glad they got at least the artistic side of the deal – but the big IF is always game design.

Hoping for the best.
