For your attention: "The Dyatlov Pass Incident".

Low-budget, late night horror channel impulse watch, surprisingly entertaining for a number of reasons.

If you're not familiar with the actual Dyatlov Pass case, it's worth reading up on – Soviet mountain hiking expedition comes to a very bad end with no survivors.
The movie takes the historical case as it's starting point, and just goes crazy from there. It's noteworthy for several reasons…

First – so THAT'S what Renny Harlin's doing these days! Still plugging away…

Second – the sheer craziness. A great many supposed explanations for the Dyatlov Pass fatalities have been proposed, from natural causes (avalanche, disorientation) conspiracy (Soviet military or espionage activities) and balls-out paranormal weirdness from yetis to UFOs.
The movie's verdict: pretty much all of the above, and more. It chucks everything into the mix and wears its tinfoil hat with pride.

Third… the last act? It's S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Not 'shades of S.T.A.L.K.E.R', not 'influenced by S.T.A.L.K.E.R'… just plain full-on S.T.A.L.K.E.R!
You'll find yourself pondering what sort of loadout you'd need to tackle the level! (Bulat suit, and something with an underslung launcher. It's that bad.)
Having not so much as a Bandit Jacket and a Viper between them, our hapless protagonists find the experience a bit too cheeki-breeki for comfort!
Very entertaining find for fans of the series.

The throw to the detention area scene from the first "Star Wars" flick was a bit painful to see but, otherwise, the film was an okay treatment of the source material. The artefact and anomaly fx were understated, but very effective. It looked to me like they did a lot, with interior and exterior shots, to recreate atmosphere from the (distantly related) pc game franchise (as well as the "Stalker" film itself).

Definitely filed that one away for future reference.

And all done, I suspect, on a budget the fraction of a contemporary Hollywood effort…
