Hi all.. ive have received a copy of the 4th addition book for early and late war armies and was pleasantly surprised to see that it seems to be a rulebook in itself ! This been the case and only at this moment wanting to use non desert armies and only then for 42 Stalingrad, do I need the 4th editon main rukebook as well at this time or it perfectly wasy to play just using the one I have and the relevant army books… |

You can totally use the ones you have. If you want to be "official" you'll buy the eastern front mid war book and cards when they eventually come out but they have no date currently. |

Cheer RetroBoom ! I thought as much and I probably will buy that set when it appears, my old Stalingrad book fell apart long ago .. |

I am still hoping for an idiots guide to translating the V3 stats in to V4. A huge list perhaps, rather than hunting through the books. |

Within BFs mind you can't use anything but Africa Corps and 8th Army However we're adults so yes you can use the old lists for eastern front. However as vehicle performance has changed, in some cases out of all recognition, the points will be totally wrong. I think updated EF lists will be 2018 Regards Jez |

The early/late war book does give all the information on using these army books specifically with 4th wothout having to alter points ! so I don't think the statement on only used for desert stands true at moment.. I played 3rd twice as was lost many times in just trying to understand the rule book, way too complicated for me. The new rules seem far simpler and on watching the youtube vids on how to play it looks promising for a good club nights game..don't do competitions. I shall advance positively and see what comes in the future.. |

The early/late war book does give all the information on using these army books specifically with 4th without having to alter points ! It would not be hard for someone to create something similar for the existing V3 mid-war books. I don't really care to play Midwar without my Churchill tanks right now! |

I find it ironic that FoW is derided by hard core WWII players as being too simple a game. So Battlefront solves that problem by dummying down 3rd edition. |

Who said it's "dumbed down?" The rules are easier to play with some chaff cut out, but the game play has a whole new level of decision making involved with move orders added in. |

There are extra "decisions" relating to tactics but most of that time the "decision" is a no-brainer. You might think there are more to make but IMO they are largely irrelevant. |

That to Blitz or not to Blitz decision is probably worth at least a little bit of thought, especially when playing non-veteran units. However I can envision that with time and experience that decision might be made based more off of a gut feeling than a deliberate cognitive process |

I find it ironic that FoW is derided by hard core WWII players as being too simple a game. So Battlefront solves that problem by dummying down 3rd edition. Not so much dummying down as consolidating rules that all have the same effect or are used by multiple armies. Most of the special rules that went away are now part of the core rules, for example. |

White tiger wrote: then for 42 Stalingrad Bad news is that for Mid War other than Desert Rats vs Afrika Korps you'll have neither the actual V4 stats from Battlefront nor the special rules update rules like they have for early and late war. So you'll be left playing with your existing campaign book and arsenal list and figuring out which special rules apply or don't apply based on looking at similar things in the EW and LW sections of the free update document. It'll work, but it'll be a bit of a pain and involve making some judgement calls. |

I figured that sooner or late someone would make a homebrew version of the "1939-1941/1044-1945 Special Rules and Warriors" book for MW (1942-1943). Not only to bridge out to the East Front, but to also let folks play with the V3 Desert/Mediterranean books as well. |

If I was really into the kind of game where you bring half the pieces needed and hope someone else brings the rest, I would make such a document. However I tend to game where I supply both sides and the terrain, so I will only convert piecemeal as needed. If someone else ends up doing it, that'd be cool. |

"Hard Core" WWII gamers do not (or should not) deride a game for being "simple" in the sense of being easy to play. FOW is not simple in that sense. Games are critizied for producing the wrong result or rewarding in correct tactics or for being driven by rule gimics or bad list design. FOW used for marketing rather than table top reasons the fussy 40K system. It appears they are attempting to improve some aspects which should be applauded. TomT |
