I have yet to play the Napoleonic version but enjoyed the Ancients. What is the general consensus on these rules and do they give a good game? I noticed that the phasing player gets to move and then fire with no chance for the opposing player to return fire. This does set some alarm bells ringing but as I said I have never played them and so would be interested to know how they play out? |

I think they are great. My gaming group enjoys the games very much. We played a game of Aspern-Essling yesterday, and the result was very historical. |

I've played quite a lot of both Ancients and Napoleonics. They are both enjoyable, and each have a different feel. |

If I remember correctly, the moving player suffers a penalty (rolls less dice) when he fires though. If you have the right card to play in your next turn, you can remain stationary and fire at full effect back at him. |

Both are great. A fundamental change in Napoleonics is that a unit throws fewer dice as it takes casualties. Radically changes game play, all in an interesting and good way. I've learned invariably that any units I march forward at the start of an attack *will* be either killed or ground down, it's how you follow up your attack that makes all the difference. |

If you like C&C ancients, I think you will enjoy C&C Napoleonics even more. As already stated, moving and firing is fairly weak and leaves your units vulnerable to a counter attack by the enemy at full fire or melee. Lots to think about on game tactics and using combined arms (artillery adding dice to another units melee attack). Great game and good introduction to Napoleonic warfare. |

C&C Napoleonics works well with figures |

> I noticed that the phasing player gets to move and then fire with no chance for the opposing player to return fire. There are cards that allow the defender to fire first (at least in the Napoleonics game) and when that happens it is might painful. The games themselves are simple to learn but hard to master and make for great gaming – not overly realistic if that is a concern. |

Yup loads of fun with figures. Great game. In fact I sold off all my block armes and made a hex mat with 5" hexes to use with my 15mm and 6mm figures… TMP link |
