Hey,

I've been working on modelling some Napoleonic ships for a game of some kind (haven't decided what). I posted the first few to Thingiverse, and I though I'd mention them here in case anyone's interested.

Very nice. I will definitely give them a try. Thanks for doing this.

How much would a 1/2400 cost to print ?

epengr11 Mar 2017 9:07 p.m. PST

If you have your own printer… a 1/2400 scale 1st rate is about $0.05 USD worth of plastic and takes no more than 15 minutes to run off…

Since I do have a printer, I'm not sure what the going rate for printing services is.

Printed one off last night. They are nice little ships. Have you considered just printing the sail with yard and leaving off the mast? It should be easy find a piece of plastic or brass rod to use for the mast. Then the sails could be placed at an angle. Just a thought.

Oh and if you activate your tip jar on THingiverse I would be more than happy to contribute a few shekels to your design work.

thanks again for the contribution.

Excellent! Glad to hear that it worked out for you.

At an angle to the wind? As in for different points of sail? I was thinking of that… I was going to try warming and bending the stays'ls so the masts could be rotated while keeping the stays'ls aligned.

Your suggestion is interesting, and easily enough done. In fact, it's already done – I just uploaded a set of sails sans masts. Is that what you had in mind? I can do the rest of the set – or you can just scale them as desired…

Thanks for pointing out the designer tip system, i didn't even know it was there!

And thanks for the feedback / suggestions – Keep 'em coming!

(I just added a 2nd rate, roughly modeled on the HMS London)
