In this refight of the actual battle, the British managed to reverse the historical outcome and dislodge the Boers from their positions, enabling the relief of Kimberley.
The Highland Brigade effected a more successful night march in close order than their historical counterparts and assaulted the centre of the hidden Boer trench lines with vigour. They were admirably supported by some accurate artillery fire from the Royal Field Artillery; by the Guards Brigade on their right wing and the 9th Brigade on their left.
All in all, a great day for her Majesty's forces – and all concluded in time for late afternoon ‘tea and tiffin' (as well as clearing the way for the relief of poor besieged Kimberley).
