We are getting closer to the Launch of the second PEDION Kickstarter campaign, the one on Urban Battlefields. We have presented lots of information on the designs and themes of the Urban expansion in our latest post, and we have now brought it all together in a short video presentation:

If you are interested in supporting Pedion in this Kickstarter (we hope you are!) and want to get a timely invite so you can grab some early bird stuff, you can always join with your email our heads up page. There you will find a short description of the intended campaign, as well as more elaborate info on how we think of running this project.

We are adding the final touches to the campaign and crunching some numbers, so the campaign will probably launch on these first days of March. Right now we are preparing prototypes for our many Stretch Goals, since we want to really enhance the Urban Battlefields with exciting ideas that will take your urban terrain to a whole new, not-seen-before level.

Among the concepts we are working on are:

  • "Transition" tiles, that is, tiles which will allow you to join our different textured boards together, or your existing tiles with the newer urban sets

  • Addons to create "dead-ends" on our roads, in order to increase the modularity and possible combinations of a given set
  • .
  • "Damaged" urban tiles, ,liby adding impressive weapon effect craters on the tiles

  • An Elevation System, so you can create slopes, uphill roads, rises and different levels in your city for a more realistic effect

  • Variant Road Width to better suit the 28mm scale

  • More urban designs, like car parks, roundabouts or open plazas

  • City harbour tiles, to represent seaside/riverside settlements, with the use of our beautiful liquid glass water effects.

…and many more…

Do these sound exciting? we certainly think so, and founding the KS will be only the beginning. We hope to see you all there!

How thick are these tiles?

Dwindling Gravitas02 Mar 2017 7:40 a.m. PST

Just from watching the video, they look to be about 1cm thick?

general btsherman02 Mar 2017 7:44 a.m. PST

Ok thanks.

Some issue I have with all these fancy new mats, they are aimed at 28mm. The individual cobble stones need to be smaller for 15mm.

DarthPanic02 Mar 2017 11:08 a.m. PST

@general btsherman – All our tiles are 1cm thick although some features do protrude, like the pavements, or the craters' edges (if they unlock).

@Rallynow – I must protest, these are not mats but sculpted and handpainted terrain tiles :) As for sizes, we have playtested our cobblestone roads at FOG 15mm games and they look quite fine. The idea is for them to be used from 10mm to 28mm with minimum fuss.

I love what you're doing, but as a 15mm gamer I'm not sold on these being in scale. Any chance of getting pics of 15mm scale figures and buildings on each of the board styles?

DarthPanic02 Mar 2017 12:26 p.m. PST

@McWong – I'll try and find some painted miniatures to take some photos then. If it helps, here is a picture of the exact same road surface and width, with 15mm scale road lines painted on our desert themed tiles, with 15mm tanks and miniatures

They look great.

Thank you John!

If you can get some pics done I'd be grateful. I'm keen to back this, but need a high degree of confidence that they work with 15mm. Especially keen to see how the side walk features and road widths look with 15mm figs and vehicles.

And we are live! I have submitted a news item, but the campaign is already close to the funding goal just after 12 hours…

…and we are funded, in just over 40 hours :)

by request from McWong, we took some photos of 15mm FoW miniatures on the sets, US Infantry and Armor. I did not have any buildings available at the time, but included some of the 15mm walls we are producing. We used both the "modern" and the "rustic" tiles

bear in mind that the "modern" tiles used have 28mm manholes, which will depend on backers' choice
