Use felt. I used it for my Stalingrad game did a small random black spray over grey felt very cheap and with a little more effort you can do some nice touches. link |

Yoga mats often have a cobbled effect imposed onto them. Dry brushed they work a treat. For the dimensions you need, you wounded two. |
