So the other day I'm cleaning up outside and I come across this wire support thing that went under a tin foil disposable cooking pan. I'm staring at it and my wife leans outside and says, "Not everything is terrain!" She knows me too well. Xin/Jeff

Xin, explain that you are saving the planet by recycling that future piece of gaming art without the need to invest all that carbon and energy into transporting, sorting, melting, forging, and recreating yet another tinfoil disposable wire support thingie. |

This is so great! 100%!!! My girlfriend does the exact same thing. We go to Jo Anne's fabrics, and every piece of green fabric in the place is recognized by me as a potential battle mat. We buy a new TV, microwave or some other appliance, and I'm sitting there staring at the shapes of the foam packing inserts wondering what kinds of old ruins they could be made into. She just rolls her eyes. Best part is, now I have HER doing it, and I catch her – she's looking at floral moss for flower decorations or something, and she goes "Oh look, miniature tree foliage!"…and I go "AH HA!" She has caught my disease, and she's not even a wargamer. I assured her that there is no cure – once you see the world in miniature terms, there is no going back! :P Great post, thanks for sharing! |

"this wire support thing that went under a tin foil disposable cooking pan" If you can sell it on eBay as terrain, you'll be vindicated… ;-) |

I am a hoarder, as in the anxiety disorder. My wife worked really hard to break my habit of keeping *every* stray piece of trash as potential scenery. But she does recognize things that will make good scenery, and points them out 9620 w russell road apt 2020 las vegas nevada 89148 me or saves them herself to give to me later. |

I too use "odds & ends" for the basis of terrain projects … E.g. Cell phone package insert & Super Glue bottle caps + assorted bitz …

A lot of stuff is. I got the 3rd degree today on why I'm collecting little plastic water bottle caps. I've seen those used as temporary bases for painting, as well as for Sci-Fi containers, when glued together, for 25mm – 32mm figs. Win-Win! |

little plastic water bottle caps. Bottle tops? Very useful to glue a figure on in order to paint. Ralph: excellent building. You could sell that. |

Cell phone inserts, that is so awesome, what a great way to take a shape and make it into something! And it's not like when you use packing like this, it makes terrain that looks cheesy. Quite the opposite! This looks like a resin model that you would buy some place. Really nice work! |

Trained the wife to get me "items" at garage sales. The look in her eyes when I say I can use this means she is a keeper! |

My wife also looks at things differently now. Before she throws anything out she asks me can you use this for your war gaming? She must also have caught it!! |

My favorite story on this is one day I am in A.C. Moore looking down at a large doll case, nicely made of varnished wood sitting on the shelf. It was large, about 18" by 9" by 9". I am looking at it long and hard. My wife comes up and sees me looking pensively at it. Suddenly she says "WHAT!!!!" I look up and say- see this is a doll case, here is where the doll goes on the other side there are two dresseer drawers for small accessories and things in the bottom, and above it this rod on which you can hang outfits. The whole thing thenbuckles up nicely and is quite handsome. "And WHAT do you intend to do with that!" she asks imperiously. I say. I'm going to buy it and use it for my Game masters Case. I will make a magazine rack holder to go above the dresser drawers. This is where the rules and handouts go. I can make it out of thin basswood or Luan, and I can add a few more drawers. I can make trays for the cards, dice, and such out of basswood for the other side to stack them up, and if I felt coat them they can be dice trays for the game. I can put the chance cards, here, the pointer there, box up the range sticks which are collapsible and put them, here. My wife looks at me long and hard and asks, "My God, is there NOTHING you won't pervert for your games!!!!???? As she walked away I looked back down at the case and said softly." No… Nothing." |
