Dear Deadhead,

In another thread you mentioned keeping cuttings from old magazines, including plans for landing craft.

I remember long ago having a magazine with photocopiable plans for a British LCA.

If we are remembering the same thing, and you still have it, would you be kind enough to send me a copy? It's one of the few things from my younger modelling days I regret not keeping. My brother and I made a pile of them from paper.

(I also remember a fantastic article on making your own Bailey bridge from plastic rod and strip. It was far beyond my capabilities at the time but it was intriguing to know it was possible. I've since made my own Nearly Bailey from a heavily adapted Airfix pontoon bridge. Curiously, some of the terminology (stringers and risers etc.) came up in a General Studies A level maths question. I was chuffed.)

Apologies to everyone else for putting this up on a Napoleonic board, but's where I know Deadhead will notice this.

Eat yer heart out…

So there I was, half way through an operating list, when I saw this……..

Oh no……..I yelled……….that massive clear out a few months ago. They all went….surely? I thought that when Airfix modelled the LCA, I dumped all the original plans

But I did have hope that these were too precious to me to dump… a vague hope…too good to be true.

Still here! I have them here!!

Not just LCA but Mk4 LCT etc. I will send you originals torn from "Army and Navy Modelworld". If you have a major interest in Landing Craft I have a serious collection of books…to which you are welcome. It is an attic clearing thing.

Contact me on liam dot flood at nhs dot net

Work that out…you never give the real thing anywhere! There are search engines that find such

It's funny you know, but Military Modelling in its early days did some excellent scale line drawings if naval warships from gunboats right up to corvettes etc, but then, after a while the naval articles disappeared….Shame!

I have Airfix Mags, still, going back to mid 60s and they have masses of relatively simple drawings to convert cruisers such as Ajax and Suffolk and many a scratchbuilt UK destroyer.

Here is what Footslogger is wanting. Originals in the post to you now;

That is it, the very one, it's all coming back to me.

Very grateful.

This is why I love this hobby and some of the chaps on TMP!

Further apologies to the Napoleonic Forum, but this crossposted to WWII also.
The LCT4 plans might be of interest. I made one in 1/300 scale years ago and packed it with "Funnies".
The originals are in the post to Footslogger, but here are the two page plans reduced.

I've made some models and masters of these in my time in various scales all built from the very same drawings! The difficulty comes when attempting to water line them, as the crew and vehicles technically sit below the water line. lol Good luck with this.

Now that is a good point…

Did not apply with the LCT4 mind you, but I tried an LCT3 and converted it to an LCT(R)for just the reason you say. I also made an LICI(l) and an LCI(s), an LCF and an LCG. (You have to know your LCs to follow this). I even had an LST and also an assault ship from some Revell ship called something like Mission Capistrano (very heavily converted) carrying LCAs in davits

Why did I not take any photos???????

Sorry 1815 fans! But no harm in being exposed to something different…..if Perrys can do that British amphibious assault into Egypt…..why not?

Footslogger26 Feb 2017 10:25 a.m. PST

I stand in awe.

I don't think I'll ever make anything as big as an LCT. I have a very tolerant wife but I don't want to take that for granted.

Plans duly arrived. Many thanks, Deadhead.

It feels like being reunited with an old friend (sniff!)

I've not had immediate success with finding the right colour pale grey photocopy card, but as soon as I do I'll make a few, and post some pictures on a new thread and stop bothering the good folk of the Napoleonic board.
