Have you ever misplaced or lost an entire painted army?

I recently had a near-complete army of Amazons go walkabout on me… in their big white storage box… took me a week to find where I had temporarily tucked them away! I'm glad they're found again. grin

No.

Still haven't found an unopened pack of minis that I picked up off the table so I had a clear area to photograph some loose minis.

Been a couple weeks, was in the middle of consolidating some like figures that had been stored separately. Probably have to go back through boxes and see which one they might have ended up in.

I had left my garage door open when I was in the back yard.
Apparently my neighbours were moving.

Well two children size tables and mini office chairs plus $300 USD in figures were missing when I came back inside.

..the week the Perry designed Wargames Foundry Afghan cavalry were released I spent an enchanted afternoon at the factory in second heaven and staggered away with boxes of loot.. including 250 of the new cavalry… To this day I have not seen them again…
:-(

I should perhaps add that a small bag of the first WF SYW realeases that were being handed out at samples at Partizan also went awol on the trip home… despite desperate rifling through bags.. looking under the car in case we had dropped them etc.. and then inexplicably they turned up again a decade later….

I once was going to stage a Battle of Fashoda at a con, but I lost a box of tirailleurs and French infantry on the way so I had to split the French I had in half and cut the British/Mahadi as well. After the con, packing up, I found them in the box, shoved under the front passenger seat from the back seat.

I lost an entire Kislev army for Warhammer for 5 years. I thought I might have sold them at one of the cons. They were full of conversions. Found them last year with a bunch of other Rubbermaid boxes in the attic. We color code boxes so they can be found with ease, red and green for Christmas, orange for Holloween, pink for easter stuff, brown for Thanksgiving, etc… These were color coded as baby cloths, light blue boxes, that the kids had grown out of…

An army? Try an entire period and scale. Somewhere in the two-bay section of the garage ought to be five 5mm SYW armies--enough to fill a short footlocker--placed there when I had to go out to Virginia to work for what turned out to be better than ten years. A painted bag of Old Glory 25mm War of 1812 US Riflemen (winter uniform) should be under the workbench.
I've been retired for better than a year now, with no sign of either force. Everyone else in wargaming is sorted and stacked or accounted for, but there are some similar gaps in books and childhood toys.
I don't mind the riflemen, but I really don't want to repaint the 5mm.

Oh yes, several small units have been AWOL for years. Then again I also keep finding units that I had forgotten about, including recently a bag of 20mm modern figures that I have no recollection of buying as I don't game modern in 20mm. I'm not even sure which nation they represent and there are no makers markings on them.

30 years ago my 28mm western skirmish figures went missing. No idea what ever happened to those boys. A pity, I miss them even still.

surdu200522 Feb 2017 8:29 a.m. PST

I lost a box of 54mm not quite Seven Years War figures. I think it happened during a move, but it seems pretty darned hard to misplace 54mm figures. I managed to do it, though.

Ragbones22 Feb 2017 8:35 a.m. PST

Never misplaced an army but there was a time when my game room was turned into a storage room for my kids and I couldn't get to my armies and lost track of where they were "buried" for a couple years. Fortunately, the madness is over.

rustymusket22 Feb 2017 8:40 a.m. PST

I lost a box of units once. I gave up looking for them and then they showed up. "That's where I put them!"

vtsaogames22 Feb 2017 9:12 a.m. PST

Yes, back in the 70's left my first Byzantine army on the subway.

Winston Smith22 Feb 2017 9:25 a.m. PST

An army? No.
But there is the legendary pack of 25mm Frontier Chasseurs d'Afrique which is "somewhere in my basement".

I also might have sold on eBay a unit of British Grenadiers, because darned if I can find them.

Perris070722 Feb 2017 11:25 a.m. PST

@Vtsaogames –

NOT BYZANTINES!!! I would be still looking for them.

Huscarle22 Feb 2017 12:56 p.m. PST

My painted Battletech company and my painted Foundry Daemons – think that they are over at a pal's, but blowed if we can find them. Few more odds n' sods missing as well such as most of my old Asgard figures. I just have too much lead scattered throughout the house, garage & loft.

Mooseworks822 Feb 2017 10:22 p.m. PST

No but I have had dreams during sleep where I have.

Just moved and I personally boxed and moved my entire collection, and consolidated everything in a dedicated hobby room in the new house. Cannot find 200 painted Warhammer skeletons and an entire packing box full of various Chaos boxes. My only hope is that sometime in next year I will stumble upon them in another mislabeled box.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP23 Feb 2017 7:28 a.m. PST

I recovered certain armies--mostly 30mm Napoleonic; some 25mm fantasy--which had been in long-term storage with a friend. Loaded them into the jeep myself. Shelved them in the garage myself. It took me six months to find my 25mm dwarves.

Which is why I have hope for other missing troops.

Rotundo23 Feb 2017 8:04 a.m. PST

Yeah, a buddy game me a bunch of Soviets for WWII. A little later someone threw some more at me. I combined them that day. Since then I have scouted my room three times to no avail. Painting Finns currently. The bear is next, need to find these guys.

Porthos23 Feb 2017 8:04 a.m. PST

Yes. I had something like 150 25/28mm 19th century Chinese foot. Al my various unpainted figures are in cigar boxes with written on the outside what is in it. Suddenly I could not find the box anymore, and I was afraid that after showing them to soime hobby friends I had left them on the street instead of putting in the car. After something like three years I took out a cigar box mentioning "SYW Prussian Cavalry" and noticed on the OTHER side the text "19th Cent. Chinese"…
Lesson learned: always remove the old text before using the box for new figures…

Dave Crowell02 Apr 2017 10:03 a.m. PST

My Eldar 40K army is MIA, I have the storage case they should be in, but no minis… As I no longer play 40K it doesn't bother too much.

What does bother me is all of my 15mm and 6mm AWI figures and terrain are AWOL. I really don't enjoy losing an entire war in two scales!
