…greens' uniform. "More than 70 percent of the soldiers who responded to an exclusive Army Times survey like and support the return of the World War II "pinks and greens" uniform. The survey, conducted at the request of Sergeant Major of the Army Dan Dailey, was emailed to about 28,000 active-duty Army Times subscribers on Feb. 7. Respondents had about a week to respond, and more than 5,000 of them did. The results were very much in favor of the old school uniforms. Overall, 77 percent of the 5,093 respondents – all of whom said they were active-duty soldiers – said they like the pinks and greens…" Main page link Amicalement Armand

Very interesting. Although I've been retired for over two decades, I was unsettled by the disappearance of the Army green uniform. Since I still have my dad's WW2 "Ike" jacket, all I'd need would be a pair of "pink" jodphurs and a pair of brown cavalry boots! Jim |

I too served and am baffled by the use of "dress blues" as Class A's. What possessed the Army to do this? Anyone know? |

Blue is the historic color of US Army uniforms. |

Interesting how many soldiers don't want to look like a overstaffed cabbage roll when not in combat. Combat fatigues are for… Combat. |

Pan Marek: Blue has been the color of the Army since its inception. The dropping of the green Class A uniform was a cost saving measure. Soldiers only need to have one uniform (blue) instead of two (green and blue). That's the official rationale, and it makes some sense when you look at the numbers rather than look at it as a kibitzer. (I am NOT accusing you of this, but Monday morning quarterbacking has become the number one avocation of most Americans.) Personally, I like the old pinks and greens. When Army Times did this same survey 10 years ago, the results were the same. In addition, soldiers generally favor a belt on the class A uniform. The official reason for not going down this path then was that the fabrics of the original pinks and greens didn't war well and faded to the "pink" color. That is easily addressed with modern fabrics and dyes. Buck Surdu |

So if this is the second time that this survey has been taken with very similar results and nothing has changed why do they keep doing the survey? Obviously nobody seems to care what the regular soldiers think… |

@Pan: Union Army uniform color was blue, current Dress Blues are very similar to the old Civil War uniforms. Just like how Navy Dress Blues are the classic sailor jumper used since about the 1700s, and Marine Dress Blues are the choker collar used since the 1800s. |

Blue dress uniforms do look very dashing. |
