I quite astounded myself with what I was able to get accomplished this, my first real week, of…getting stuff accomplished.
1 The main thing is that I actually DID get in gear. Long gone are the legitimate and even some lame excuses, there was nothing preventing me from (re) taking this first big step and that's what I did.
2) Read "Sergeant Pearman's Memoirs" by Anglesy and discovered quite a few new things about certain events during the Sikh Wars, oddly of which they don't all appear in Anglesy's v1 of the History of the British Cavalry. I did this for an hour a day on my newly refurbished and cushioned bench seat that had been fixed two weeks previously. Next up this week, Sergeant Bancroft's Memoirs, BHA.
3) Re-Reading the "Last Sunset" dealing with the 1st Sikh War by A. Singh on my Nook at bedtime and marking passages and notes as I go along. Approx. one half hour, plus, nightly.
3) Worked on my own little private enterprise, averaging about an hour a day.
4) Dragged out the rules to formerly titled "Wellington in India: The 2nd Mahratta War (Simple GBACW Rules)" by Richard H. Berg and originally slated for GMT games and now going elsewhere as "Vindaloo". After this long a pause I realized they need a complete re-write and re-structuring and informed Berg as such and he gave me permission to have at it, as long as I keep him in the loop and have him go over any rules changes I suggest before we make them stick. Estimated time, two-three weeks at the most.
5) Advertising and selling off large portions, though not all, of my vast Victorian Era Military History library, which while it does cut into some of my work time, allows enough money to come in to supplement my retirement and work on these projects rather than in Walmart.
Not bad at all, if you ask me, especially since I don't sit down and watch a movie until after 6 PM at night and I'm in bed anytime after 8, reading until I fall asleep.
Slated for this week:
More on my own effort, reading Bancroft & Singh, reading the rest of the Welly rules and actually sitting down on the Sikh War Book proper in order to:
A) Make sure I have the latest and greatest version(s) to start working on when I officially pick up the pen again.
B) I might even start dabbling on the Glossary and even the Bibliography, in order to both get my feet wet to the writing process again.
Stay tuned and keep those whips cracking!
Andrew
Almost forgot While I will miss her, my lovely girlfriend is slated to be very busy or away, as in like "Gone", one way or another for two solid weeks starting from March 12th-27th. Since I will be 100% in gear by then, I won't have to worry about dividing my time and I may actually be able to ramp up my efforts. At least the "window of opportunity" is there and I fully intend on using it.
