Would they be any different from ordinary British line infantry? |

That's what I was wondering. Typically sailor's are depicted as better at hand to hand and not as good at shooting compared to regular troops. But being fairly new to the gaming the Indian Mutiny\Colonial period, I'm not sure if this is a fair comparison to the naval brigade or not. Hence the question. And sorry about the "triple post". The first time I posted it got the bug and didn't post at all and the second time it posted in triplicate!! |

If I recall correctly, the naval brigade was primarily in the field as an escort for some of the larger guns manned by naval gunners. So, I'd go with not as good as other line infantry – except perhaps stalwart on the defense. |

Not sure about the Mutiny, but in the Boer War the Naval Brigade suffered unusually high loses at Graspan (the only battle in which they played a significant part as infantry), partly because they did not adopt the extended order that the regular infantry did, and also because they tended to bunch-up under fire. There is absolutely no doubting their bravery, but I think it would be worth treating at them as fearless troops, but lacking the tactical nouse of the infantry. |
