…would the USA tolerate China constructing a navy facility on the western seaboard?

How might the military dynamics in the Pacific change?

TIA

GarrisonMiniatures19 Feb 2017 12:11 p.m. PST

America continues it's present policies and this becomes a likely scenario. Apart from arranging the overthrow of the Mexican government, not sure what the US could do about it.

And is it any different to the US having naval bases in Japan or Turkey?

I think it is more likely that China provides the money for Mexico to improve and upgrade one or more of its current facilities, which the Chinese would visit for extended periods of time. China could also sell or transfer a few vessels to the Mexican Navy, which would give them a reason to stick around as long term advisors and trainers.

Get the Dawg house ready…

USA would never overthrow a Government. I mean a friendly government,, wait I mean a friendly that is doing everything a major US Corpriation wants it to do. Oh never mind "Meet the new Boss the same as the old Boss"

Seen this movie already. How are we going to get by without Swayze?

Now why would anyone put a UM topic on the US & TMP Talk boards?

Tommy2019 Feb 2017 1:14 p.m. PST

Agree with Ochoin. I have UM & Modern unchecked to keep this kind of dawghouse bait off of my homepage.

Mooseworks819 Feb 2017 1:26 p.m. PST

Would we us the Monroe Doctorine to prevent this or as a pretext for war?

Khusrau19 Feb 2017 1:33 p.m. PST

'Tolerate' ? You are not suggesting that the US would interfere in the sovereign affairs of a neighbour? Surely that wouldn't be the case.

emckinney19 Feb 2017 1:50 p.m. PST

The strong do as they will, the weak suffer as they must.

Having spent a fair amount of time in China, and having lived the majority of my life on the border of Mexico, I can safely say that a Chinese-Mexican alliance is a cultural impossibility.

Some nation states with radically different cultures can temporarily make an alliance, and make it work. China and Mexico? They won't even have the first foundation poured before the Chinese military throws up its hands in frustration and leaves. And the Mexican elites will be laughing all the way to their Cayman Island bank accounts.

Wackmole919 Feb 2017 2:51 p.m. PST

Lucius you stole my thunder. Have you every been to the non resort parts of Mexico? Scary stuff.

Please remove this from the TMP Talk board before the virus spreads.

I see no reason why we, as a community of responsible adults, cannot continue this gaming-related discussion without political commentary. I believe everyone can make their point without satire, sarcasm, or malice.

USAFpilot19 Feb 2017 3:26 p.m. PST

Not going to happen. Why? Because China is smarter than that.

GarrisonMiniatures19 Feb 2017 4:36 p.m. PST

Well, they were talking about building some kind of space station thing in Argentina.

But I agree that the chances of a Chinese-Mexican alliance is as improbable as, oh, I don't know, a US – Saudi Arabia alliance?

Like the Monroe Doctrine idea. Though might give Russia ideas about the US interfering in Europe or China thoughts about US involvement in Asia – kind of 'good for the goose ' situation.

15mm and 28mm Fanatik19 Feb 2017 6:21 p.m. PST

Closer China-Mexico ties make sense since the US has been alienating both recently. If nothing else it would provide China and Mexico leverage in future negotiations with the US government.

doug redshirt19 Feb 2017 6:31 p.m. PST

Wait? We still have a government?

MiniPatton19 Feb 2017 7:19 p.m. PST

I wonder if there might be a better match further down the coast with a Central or South American country.

Silent Pool19 Feb 2017 8:07 p.m. PST

Empress Miniatures produce some attractive 28mm Chinese PLA figures but seem to lack an adversary. Am thinking the company's US Moderns would fit the bill, but fighting in the Eastern Pacific as opposed to the Western Pacific (what if?).

PLA versus the forces of Yuggoth in Mexico? That's something I'd play.

Balthazar Marduk21 Feb 2017 10:00 a.m. PST

Welp… I don't see the Chinese threatening anyone with it. If they wanted to pull something, the base could be removed. The deck just isn't in their favor.

Seems like a good opportunity to keep an eye on them.
