Thanks for the link. Story-wise, seemed a little bit like an episode of "Combat!". The gear and little details seemed quite authentic, with the men carrying Thompsons having 4-mag pouches with the magazines sticking out instead of buttoned up like you usually see in Hollywood productions. Each time a soldier would enter the bivouac area, he would make his weapon safe by pulling the magazine out and stowing it. And after firing a few rounds a soldier fits a new magazine into his weapon. The notes credit these details to actor Lee Marvin who had recently been in the Marines and worked with the cast on so they would look like soldiers. |

Not only had Lee Marvin been in the Marines he was in combat as well. He enlisted in the Marines 12 August 1942. He was wounded at Saipan on 18 June 1944 in an action where the majority of his company were casualties. He was given a medical discharge in 1945. |
