Okay this one crops up every now and again, but I think I'm going to tweak FFG's X-Wing game for WC – probably Prophecy era. This has the obvious advantage of not neccessarily requiring the purchase of lots of fighters making shapeways prices a little less intimidating. I think I've tagged the obvious sources, Studio Bergstrom and Shapeway's principally DreamFoundary. But can anyone comment on the models and for shapeways, never having purchased anything from that source, what materials are best? |

Not directly your questions, but I was wondering if you've looked through the Silent Death ships? I always thought there are a few that might work, though I'd don't have specifics, at the moment. Doug |

I have, and indeed have some, but I'm going for stuff thats as close to the source material as possible in look. I'm probably going to dip my toe with a couple of Dralthi IV and a Confed fighter or two by way of a test purchase. |

How happy are you with plastic sheet and glue, and can always scan my plans for you link Robert

Toaster, the yellow ones look a bit like one of the old Nobel Armada plastics. Some of the others like some of the Aerotech from Iron Wind Metals. Hard telling which influences which, of course… ;->= Doug |

Really very nice, though I'm probably a bit time poor to go the scratch built route at the moment. I'm averaging less than an hour a week modelling/painting currently. Though I am thinking about scratch building a corvette class vessel to scale in with the fighters! |

Toaster, do you realize that because you work up your models in sheet plastic, and John McEwan over at Reviresco still uses the lost wax method to convert styrene plastic masters into permanent bronze masters for production moulds, the two of you could collaborate in the production of these sorts of original star fighter minis in white metal, right…? For miniatures from shapeways, Frosted Ultra Detail is probably your best bet. It's not particularly cheap and is slightly brittle, but it is also flexible enough to survive gaming. PM Javelin98 on this forum, he's done a lot of shapeways modeling (including a set of the Blade Runner parking meters for me). |

@Lion.. With respects, as for Shapeways. Frosted Ultra Detail is probably your best bet. It's not particularly cheap and is slightly brittle, FUD appears to be their best w/ regards to detail, but you most certainly 'pay' for that detail. Not Even close to "cheap". |
