"A shadowy Iranian general responsible for the deaths of nearly 500 Americans traveled to Moscow Wednesday to meet with high-ranking Russian officials -- a trip that violated multiple United Nations resolutions forbidding him from leaving his country, multiple western intelligence officials with direct knowledge of the visit told Fox News. Iranian Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani arrived in Terminal A of Vnukovo airport outside Moscow on Feb. 14 on Mahan Air WD084 at 12:13 p.m. local time and was scheduled to remain in Russia for a few days for meetings, officials said…" Main page link His appearance in Moscow is significant because he played a key role in convincing Moscow to intervene in Syria in the first place… link Probably he wants to know what are Moscow's intentions for the future …. more specifically …. what will Russia do with the U.S. in view of rumours that they may be cooperating in Syria. Armand- ITS FOX NEWS! FOX NEWS! I know you don't live in the US, but are you aware that Fox has a much less than stellar track record on reporting and truth? If you are going to post "news", the least you could do is keep to reputable sources. And items of some relevance to wargaming. |

Qassem Soleimani has been travelling about a great deal since the UN Security Council imposed his travel ban in 2007. He's travelled to Russia and Iraq before and was practically resident in Damascas over the last 18 months. So, while the report is likely true, it is not really news but a continuation of business as usual. On a related issue, does the UN Security Council really have the power to impose such a travel ban and if so are UN member states bound by such a ban? The council might claim such power but can it enforce such bans? Cheers. Rod Robertson. |

Suleimani's a character alright. He's quite famous, or infamous should I say. Considered a bit of a "legend" in some circles. Supposedly seen on many occasions at the front lines with little regard for his own safety in both Syria and Iraq. Perhaps this was why there were reports at various times that he was gravely injured or even dead due to his "recklessness." |
