Once again I am blogging our battle table build for Cold Wars. This time it's Eylau, putting the COLD in Cold Wars.
4x8 feet boards, 2 inches thick. That is terrain awesomeness.
Our source for our map to build. An awesome book.
Laying out terrain features with glass beads.
Drawing on the foam in sharpie, all the terrain features we want to represent.
Carving in rivers, lakes and streams.
Using clear plastic sheets to make a stencil for the hills.
Hills cut and ready for sanding. More pictures and detailed descriptions of our methods on my blog: link Cheers for now, more to come, Xin/Jeff |

Thanks for the comments! vtsaogames, We use rules that we wrote over the last 10 years. We've used them for our other big convention games, Stones River, Rivoli, Marengo, Austerlitz and others. wrgmr1, 10mm, I think all the figures are Old Glory's. 14Bore, There will be. David F Brown, that's my OCD working overtime. Xin/Jeff |

Xin You are glutton for punishment… Marengo, Austerlitz and now Eylau! I have followed the construction and played in all those! I salute you for your passion and dedication in Napoleonics and inspiration you bring to it all! |

Wow, very impressive, can't wait to see it completed. I have a few suggestions that might save you some time, at least on your next project. Before routing out the water features, maybe cut their outline with a knife. The bit may eject the foam as you approach the edge without melting it. Also, it looks like your jig saw has a tilting table. Why not put the bevel on your hills as you cut them out? Don |

MarshalGreg, thanks. I can't take all the blame, Alan who runs the game and builds with me, Bob and Lou doing 99% of the figure painting. It's a team sickness. See you at Cold Wars? HobbyDR, scoring the river before routing is a brilliant idea. Thanks. Yes the scroll saw tilts, but the size of the hills often preclude using that feature with the saw. So we just hack away with a razor knife. Xin/Jeff |

Very cool! Back in the 70s the Penn State Wargames Club did several massive games of Eylau using the old GDW Fire & Steel rules. We had 6-8,000 15mm figures on a table that was about 10 x 24 and 6-8 players a side. |
