Not wargaming related, but it may interest many on here who – like me – had female relatives who served in the RN, that 100 years ago today, the Womens' Royal Naval Service – aka Wrens – was founded. The service was disbanded in 1993, but paved the way for modern-day full service ashore and afloat for women.

Yay! My mum was a WREN right after the war. She was seconded to the Royal Marines. Where they taught her to make a bed with corners so sharp you could cut yourself on them.
