This thought popped into my head this afternoon. So I started to Google it. I got as far as typing "Are Targa…." when my query popped up as first option. I guess it was not an original thought. |

Elves are Eldar, Vulcans, Romulans and Minbari. Everyone knows that. |

Meliboneans. Right down to dragonriders and Elric's eyes. Not even disguised. Again, GRRM is the second-most successful fan-fic author, right after the woman who wrote the BDSM "Twilight" fan-fic "Fifty Shades" book. |

I had orginally thought the Others might turn about to be a Dark Elf equivalent. If TV serias is correct this is not the case – but Martin may have a more interesting take – he usually does. Targs wrapped in mystery. Humans with advanced magic of some kind. Fall a bit like Atlantis. We may never know much more given that POV characters have limited knowledge. Might learn more from the GRRMillirilon but that may not appear for many years (he doesn't need further distractions…) TomT |

Are Elves fire-proof? Actually GRRM says that Dany isn't but he doesn't explain how she survived Khal Drogo's Cremation. The Stark Children are evidently (some to a greater-Bran or lesser-Sansa degree) semi-magical as well. But if the Targs are elven how do we explain (and admittedly it's just a fan theory that he is) Tyrion? He doesn't seem in the least elven (except in the Santa Claus view of elves) or magical. |

A lot of Targaryeans thought they were fireproof. Like Viserys. Or maybe he just failed his "Fireproof" die roll. So did Aegon the Inflammable. Apparently the magic of cremating Mirri Maz etc and other stuff including dragon eggs preserved Dany. But the scene at Vaes Dothrak does seem to imply that she IS fireproof. "Don't worry George. We got this." |

In Book 1, Tyrion says to Jon, "I know the dreams you dream Bastard." I think this is the first clue about them both being Targs and dragon riders. And on tv, he does get along quite well with dragons. Even to the extent of scratching them under the chin. "Who's a nice dragon? You're a nice dragon!" |

Which is why I don't think he has any idea how to finish this thing. I know that he has the final victors and death toll figured out since he has shared that with HBO but it's exactly how he gets there that he is at a loss. After all here we are 2 books away from the end and we still have the barest foreshadowing of the War to come with the dead Meanwhile the series has stolen a march on GRRM by presenting at least 4 major themes that will now not be "special moments" in the books; SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS 1)Jon is reborn as a normal human 2)Dany will unite the Dothraki behind her, wipe out the Slavers and leave Meereen for Westeros 3)We find out about Hodor 4)We find out the Ned is not Jon Snow's father (or what I call "The Maury Povich moment", "Ned, you are…..NOT the father".) I kind of blame it on whoever talked GRRM into expending ASOIAF from 3 books (possibly 4) to 7 books. I think that 3-4 books actually would have covered the saga nicely, after all Books 4 and 5 have basically been filler, introducing characters and plots that go nowhere, and since he has taken that route suddenly GRRM has found himself with a ton of loose ends. To be perfectly honest as long as the series wraps it up I really no longer care when/if GRRM finishes his books. And actually we would have had the end this year except that HBO and D&D added episodes in a vain attempt to give GRRM time to finish it first. Even then all that we really have is 13 episodes spread over 2 seasons when of course 2 full seasons would have been 20 episodes, it really shows how little story is actually left to tell. |
