link GHQ has a nice selection with color pics of their models. I could say, most Italian AFVs sucked in WWII. But some might say I'm a bigot & racist … Oh wait … all my Grandparents came for Italy ! So I guess I should hate myself !! |

Feel free to hate yourself, Ralph, but I'd rather discuss military history here. Again, I don't necessarily disagree with your detailed analysis of Italian WW2 armour. However, limiting the Italian involvement in the Second World War to a footnote or the butt of a joke diminishes the contributions of not only the Italians who fought and died but also the valiant Allied men and women who lost their lives opposing Mussolini's thirst for power. BTW Wellington had something witty to say about his Irish background: "Being born in a stable, does not make one a horse." |

I like early North Africa, pitting the Italian tanks V British A10, A13 and Vickers lights etc. Much better than thundering around the table with late war "super tanks" |

Yes once again, I study history too … And well aware of all the Italian involvement in WWII and WWI. For that matter … BTW Wellington had something witty to say about his Irish background: "Being born in a stable, does not make one a horse."
BTW … I'm not Irish, was not born in a stable and I am not horse either … |

I do too … even the France '40 Campaign as well. The early North African battles were my favorite area of study … |

The Ansaldo M1AS is so cute. What would something even smaller than a Tankette be called? |

I'm quite interested in the East Africa campaign, where the Matilda II is the "King Tiger." But second place goes to…the mighty m11/39, the only other gun-armed AFV in theater. I am also somewhat fascinated with the CV33/35 -- they were pretty much ubiquitous. |

Yes, it's "horses for courses". I like the way you think, Jeff. |

Yes, the East African Campaign is another I studied. And I also found the Brit invasion of Lebanon and Syria in '41, very interesting. |

Jeff, there were other gun armed AFV in East Africa but they didn't see much action. The FIAT AB 611 armoured car had the same 37mm gun as the M11/39 and in a turret! The British used 6 A13 cruiser tanks in one battle. You are right that most AFV there just had MG although apparently a few CV33 had a 20mm Solothurn ATR and some of the Allied Armoured Cars and Carriers had Boys ATR. |

Ah the Italians. In 1938 they had built the most powerful tank force in the world, in numbers at least (except for the Russians but no one believed them). Perfectly designed to take on Yugoslavia in long mountain valleys so turrets were not so important. Lets gloss over the tanks (C3/33) lost to stone wielding Ethiopians because they were trapped in a valley and could not shoot to the rear. They learned their lessons and the M11/39 got its MG turret added so that problem is dealt with. They just peaked too early and suppressed all bad reports from the field. They just lacked the educational and industrial base for WWII. Always had a soft spot for them and thought that actual combatants did very well considering the cards they were dealt. |
