My first thought is they have done a remake of the Matrix more than Ghost in the Shell? I guess I'll have to watch and see if the story is as destroyed as I fear it is. |

I don't mind if it is a different story---if it was a straight story remake of the anime there would be no point in seeing it. That said, why use source material that itself is essentially perfection? It does look visually impressive, that's fo4 sure. |

Its very common for a Japanese series to be different when it goes from Manga to Anime to Movie/OVA formats. The first Ghost in the Shell movie is nothing like the manga and neither is the series have anything to do with either. From what I hear it is a weird combination of the first movie with "The Laughing Man" merged with the "Puppet Master". There was only a "thinktank" in the movie and there is one in the trailers. So I am going to assume that scene will be recreated as well.
